Briarwood Elementary
2015 -2016 Energy Team The Briarwood Energy Team consists of 6th Grade students that are
part of the Gifted & Talented Leadership Team
Briarwood Energy Team
—  The Energy Team at Briarwood has focused on
energy conservation awareness. Our activities have
involved the simple things that students can do to
conserve energy. We have tried to educate our
students on the importance of saving energy and to
make simple changes that will help the world now
and in many years to come. The Energy Team has
stressed that we all need to do our part. The future
depends on what we do today to save energy!
Energy Team Walkthrough
—  Each month the members of the Energy Team do a
walk-through of the building while the teachers and
students are in the gym for morning meeting.
Students use the checklist to monitor each classroom
and other common areas to ensure that they are
being as energy efficient as they can be. We also
leave a reminder of what they can do to be more
energy efficient.
Briarwood Receives Grant
from WRECC!
—  WRECC Grant – The grant opportunity came out in
September 2015. The art teacher at Briarwood – Ms.
Shelly Clark received the grant for $700.00. With the
money that was received, she purchased solar
chargers for the electronics that she uses in her
classroom. She educated all of her classes on how
she is conserving energy by using these solar
chargers instead of the traditional electric chargers.
Briarwood Recyles
—  Briarwood wants to let each and every student
know how important recycling is for our planet.
Recycling bins are placed in each classroom and
throughout the school. Each class has a student job
that helps to take out their classroom’s recycling
each week. Our custodians and cafeteria staff also
do their part in helping our school recycle. They
recycles, boxes, plastic, glass and paper that they
use in their job as well!

Energy Team teaches about the
importance of Energy Conservation
—  The Energy Team also spoke to the students about
how they could recycle plant, fruit, vegetable, and
other table scraps by composting them. Students
can start a compost pile with grass, dirt and leaves.
They can add fruit, vegetable, and other food scraps.
This will add nutrients when planting trees, plants,
a garden and more. The Energy Team even showed
the students how to compost by using a composting
container!
