From the Principal
In 2017 all years 3, 5 and 7 students within
South Australia will transition to doing
NAPLAN testing online.
The move to online, or computer based
assessment, is a natural outcome of the
increasing use of information and
communication technologies in classrooms
across Australia to enhance student learning.
Transitioning to NAPLAN Online realises
benefits and new opportunities that are
limited, or not possible with paper-based.
These include:


Better assessment - diversity in
assessment tasks (more than just multiple
choice questions), & assessing broader
range of skills and content.
More precise results - tests are tailored
to student ability providing a personalised
learning experience, which will provide
more precise results & keeps students
engaged.

Faster turnaround of information results available more rapidly; enabling
teachers to identify learning priorities
early and tailor teaching to address
student needs.
In preparation for this NAPLAN online testing
in 2017, next term, DECD requires all South
Australian schools to take part in a NAPLAN
Online Readiness trial with our current year
3, 5 and 7 students. This will provide each
school with the opportunity to provide
feedback on their school’s readiness, both
technically and locally, to go online in 2017.
The NAPLAN Online Readiness trial will be
held during weeks 4 and 5 of Term 3 2016.
Schools will undertake as many test sessions
as they need to develop a good
Term 2, Week 9 - Thursday 30th June 2016
understanding of the platform and
revised processes to provide detailed
feedback on their school’s experience
and readiness to transition in 2017.
STUDENT SAFETY
Our student’s safety is our top priority
at Moorook Primary School. It has
come to our attention that there is a
safety issue with our students crossing
the driveway to enter school in the
morning or to leave school in the
afternoon as well as accessing the oval
during recess and lunchtimes.
We need to ensure that our students
are not in danger from traffic (eg cars,
couriers, garbage trucks etc) regularly
using the driveway.
We think this problem can be alleviated
by students, parents, staff and visitors
entering and leaving our school yard at
a commonly marked crossing area. This
crossing area will now be at the end of
the car park near the small garden. We
are hoping to have this area marked
more clearly with painted lines and
flags in the coming weeks.
PLEASE NOTE: Students are not to use
the area between the water tanks to
enter or leave school, however
dropping off and picking up children at
the front gate of the school is still fine.
Thankyou for your understanding and
co-operation with keeping our students
safe.
Thank you,
Sonya Warren

Hi everyone,
Over this term we have been considering "What do kids need to succeed?" The Search Institute has determined that there
are 40 Developmental Assets that are positive helps in children being successful in life. The more each child has in their
life, the greater the chance for success.
Today we are looking at Assets 32-36 which are about Social Competencies.
Asset 32 : Planning and Decision Making. The young person knows how to plan and make decisions.
Asset 33 : Interpersonal Competence. The young person has empathy, sensitivity and friendship skills.
Asset 34 : Cultural Competence. The young person has knowledge of and comfort with people of
different cultural / racial / ethnic backgrounds.
Asset 35 : Resistance Skills. The young person can resist negative peer pressure and dangerous
situations
Asset 36 : Peaceful Conflict Resolution. The young person seeks to resolve conflict non-violently.
Remember, children do not have to have every asset to be successful, but the Search Institute's
research suggests having at least 30 solidifies a successful outcome in life.
