COURSE DESCRIPTION:
FREN 1020 is the second of three sequential courses that teach the basic skills of listening, speaking, reading,
and writing in French. Students build these skills by watching, listening, and practicing speaking after native
speakers on video, learning vocabulary, verb forms, and grammatical structures of the language, discovering the
francophone culture through reading and watching videos, and practicing what they have learned through online
exercises and quizzes. FREN 1020 covers five units.

RATIONALE:
This course is an elective component in the Academic Transfer Program as well as a general elective for other
interested students.

Upon completion of this course, students will be able to demonstrate, through written and oral tests, an
elementary level of French language proficiency in speaking, listening, reading, and writing, as well as cultural
awareness of the francophone world. In particular, FREN 1020 will prepare the students to do the following
