ANIMAL FARM
EPISODE 1, PART 1
Narrator: The animals of Manor Farm
worked very hard for a cruel farmer called
Mr Jones. There were many different
animals on Manor Farm: pigs, sheep,
horses, cows, hens, dogs, a goat and one
lazy cat. They worked very hard, but they
were often hungry. One night, an old
black pig called Old Major told them all
about his dream.
Old Major: One day, all of the animals will
be free. This farm will be ours. We’ll work
hard, but we will keep all of the food for
ourselves. Together, we can do it! One
day, all of the animals will be free. This
farm will be ours. We’ll work hard, but
we will keep all of the food for ourselves.
Together, we can do it!
Narrator: Clover, one of the horses on
the farm, looked at Boxer, a large black
horse, and asked:
Clover: Is it possible?
Boxer: I don’t know, but I’m going to work
very hard.
Benjamin: Nothing will ever change.
Narrator: Said Benjamin, the old donkey
who had lived on the farm all his life.
Three days later, Old Major died, but
the animals remembered his words.
They continued to work, but one night
Mr Jones drank too much alcohol and
forgot to feed them. The animals walked
up to the window of the farmhouse,
looked inside and saw Mr Jones asleep on
the sofa.
Clover: Mr Jones forgot to feed us!
Mollie: I’m so hungry!
Benjamin: He’s drunk again.
Narrator: Snowball, a very clever pig,
looked at the other animals and said:
Snowball: It’s time for the revolution! Let’s
go, everyone!
Narrator: The animals ran towards
the shed – a small house with food
inside – and Boxer kicked the door open.
Mr Jones woke up, picked up his gun and
ran outside.
Mr. Jones: What are you doing?
Narrator: The animals looked at Snowball,
who said,
Snowball: This is our farm now!
Narrator: Then they all started to run.
Mr. Jones: Help!
Clover: And you can never come back!
Narrator: They chased Mr Jones to the gate
of Manor Farm and watched him run
away. That night, the animals all went to
sleep and dreamt about their freedom.
Clover: We are free.
Boxer: This is nice.
Sheep:  Sleep and food are good.
Narrator: In the morning, they were happy
to see that it wasn’t just a dream. They
looked at the empty farmhouse.
Napoleon: Come on, everyone. Let’s see
what’s inside.
Narrator: said Napoleon, another clever
pig,
Clover: I’ve never been inside the house.
Narrator: Clover said to Boxer.
Boxer: Me neither.
Narrator: The animals walked into
the living room and saw lots of beautiful
furniture. There was a sofa, some
bookcases and a picture of a great leader
above the fireplace.
Clover: We worked hard and we were
hungry while Mr Jones spent so much
money on this.
Snowball: On our farm, we will share
everything.
Napoleon: That’s right. We’ll work less and
eat more.
Narrator: Then they went into the kitchen,
which was also beautiful. The pigs started
to cry when they saw some hams on
the wall.
Clover: Oh no!
Boxer: This beer must go.
Snowball: We won’t drink alcohol and we
won’t kill other animals.
Napoleon: We will be the opposite of Mr
Jones.
Narrator: The animals left the house and
went back to the barn. They all stood
around Snowball and Napoleon. They
weren’t sure what to do next.
1
Snowball: This farm belongs to us. We’ll
work hard and share everything.
Mollie: Will there be sugar?
Napoleon: What a stupid question! No,
there won’t be any sugar, but no one will
whip us or tell us what to do. We’ll work
together and we’ll be free.
Sheep: Free is good! Mhhh.
Clover and Boxer: Hurray!
Benjamin: Nothing will ever change.
Narrator: To be continued.
Track 3
ANIMAL FARM
EPISODE 1, PART 2
Narrator: Snowball looked at the barn and
then at the other animals.
Snowball: Can someone bring me some
paint, please?
Narrator: The animals watched as Snowball
began to paint words on the wall of
the barn.
Clover: He can write!
Napoleon: Yes, so can I.
Clover: Can you read it to us?
Napoleon:
Number 1: Anything with two legs is bad.
Number 2: Anything with four legs or wings
is a friend.
Number 3: Animals must not wear clothes.
Number 4: Animals must not sleep in beds.
Number 5: Animals must not drink alcohol.
Number 6. No animal will kill another
animal.
Number 7: All animals are equal.
All animals should learn to read and write.
We must do everything that Mr Jones did,
but we will do it better.
Narrator: Many of the animals tried to
learn how to read, but it was very difficult.
Boxer could only learn A, B, C and, D. Then
he forgot and had to start at A again.
Mollie only learnt the letters in her name.
All of the pigs studied very hard, but
the sheep didn’t learn anything. They just
walked around repeating,
Sheep: Four legs good, two legs bad.
Snowball: Now we must get to work.
Narrator: said Snowball, but the cows
started to moo.
Cows: Please, help us first. Mr Jones forgot
to milk us. We are very uncomfortable.
Narrator: The animals didn’t have any
hands, but they tried. Finally, the pigs
found a way to milk them. The other
animals looked at the milk with hunger in
their eyes.
Mollie: What will happen to the milk?
Napoleon: Don’t worry about the milk.
Right now we have to work.
Narrator: The animals went out onto
the farm and worked harder than ever
before. They finished their work in less
time than they ever had with Mr Jones.
When they came back to the barn, they
were tired, but happy. Only a few animals
noticed that the milk was gone. To be
continued.

What Have the British
Done For us?
Listen to the conversation between
Honza and Pepa. Choose the best reply
for questions 1-4.
Outside. At night. In winter. Two men at
a football match. England vs the Czech
Republic. England is winning.
Honza: This is a great game, isn’t it?
Pepa:  No! England is winning and I hate
them!
Honza: Come on! Don’t be a big baby!
Pepa: Well, they come here to our country
and win. It’s not fair! Nothing they
do is fair! I mean, what’s so great about
the British?
Honza: Well, they invented football.
Pepa: Yes, but it’s not like they did
anything else!
Honza: Well, do you like that warm cup of
tea from my thermos flask?
Pepa: Yes, it’s really nice to have something
warm! So what? They didn’t invent tea.
Honza: But the British invented
the thermos flask.
Pepa: No they didn’t!
Honza: We can find the answer on my
smartphone if you like.
Pepa: Okay! Fine! So they invented
the thermos flask. What else?
Honza:  See this cold stadium we’re
standing in? The British invented
the cement that made it.
Pepa: So they invented football…
Honza: And hockey!
Pepa: … the thermos flask, and cement.
Well done British people! And what else?
Honza:  Well, you know how you’re going
to the Canary Islands next week?
Pepa: Yes! And I’ll be a lot warmer! Did they
invent holidays?!
Honza: No, but the British invented the jet
engine, the motor that aeroplanes use.
Oh, and the first computer…
Pepa: So they invented the beautiful game
of football…
Honza: And hockey!
Pepa: … the thermos flask, cement, the jet
engine for planes and the computer. But
what have they done for us? They didn’t
help us when the Germans came here in
1939, did they?
Honza: No. You’re right about that.
Track 5
Megan: OK. I’ll go start the car and turn on
the heat. Then when you come outside, it
will be warm. This winter is really cold!
Auburn: Thanks! See you in a few minutes.
Track 7
The British made the first chocolate
bars. Listen to the recording and fill in
the missing verbs.
Chocolate bars
from the UK
It is strange to think that there was a time
when chocolate bars didn’t exist. But
it’s true! Chocolate was sold by weight
in grams, and people paid more for
the packaging. A chocolate-maker called
Frys, from Bristol in England, started to sell
wrapped chocolate bars in 1847. They still
make them today – the Fry’s Chocolate
Cream bar. After that, chocolate‑makers
copied the idea and soon chocolate bars
were everywhere. Who knew that history
could be so tasty!*
* Choc fact! These bars are actually vegan.
And they still taste good!
Track 6
East vs West Dialogue
Auburn: Hey Megan. What’s up? I just
came from the airport and I’m excited to
see the East Coast.
Megan: Cool. I’m going to the store to get
a soda. Do you want to come?
Auburn: What kind of pop do you like?
Megan: I really like Pepsi, but I hate Coke.
Then we could go to a restaurant and
have some grinders for lunch.
Auburn: What’s a grinder?
Megan: Oh, right. I think you guys call
them sub sandwiches.
Auburn: That sounds good. But I’m not
really hungry. Maybe we can just go to
Starbucks? My flight was six hours long so
I’m tired.
Megan: Sure, we can get some coffee,
but I’ll take you to Dunkin Donuts.
Their coffee is really good and I can get
something to eat there because I am
hungry.
Auburn: Do they have Wi-Fi? I’d like to
send my mom an email and tell her that
I arrived.
Megan: I really don’t know. I always take
my coffee to go. But you can send her
a message from here before we leave
the house.
Auburn: Thanks. I’ve got my phone. What’s
your Wi-Fi password?
Megan: It’s my name, M-E-G-A-N. I made it
easy so my mom can remember it.
Auburn: Perfect. I’ll send her an email and
we can go in five minutes.

Oil Countries
Oil comes from many different regions,
all around the world. Can you name
these countries?
1 This oil-producing country is 100%
Islamic. It is the largest Arab state and is has
a very large desert.
2 This is a very large country. You can find
the Rocky Mountains here. Its symbol
is the maple leaf and the oil is mostly in
the province called Alberta.

oil is in this country. The capital is Caracas
and most people speak Spanish.
4 This country’s flag is red, white and blue.
It has large areas of oil in Alaska and Texas.
5 This very large country is next to China,
Ukraine, North Korea and Norway. Most
of its oil is in Siberia and around the Ural
mountains.

My house in Budapest
My, my hidden treasure chest,
Golden grand piano
My beautiful Castillo (a make of Piano)
You
Ooh, you
Ooh, I’d leave it all
My acres of a land
That I’ve achieved
It may be hard for you to,
Stop and believe
But for you
Ooh, you
Ooh, I’d Leave it all
Ooh, for you
Ooh, you
Ooh, I’d leave it all
Give me one good reason
Why I should never make a change
Baby if you hold me
Then all of this will go away
My many artifacts
The list goes on
If you just say the words
I I’ll up and run
To you
Ooh, you
Ooh, I’d leave it all
Ooh, to you
Ooh, you
Ooh, I’d leave it all
Give me one good reason
Why I should never make a change
Baby if you hold me
Then all of this will go away

My friends and family
They don’t understand
They fear they’ll lose so much
If you take my hand
But, for you
Ooh, you

The Yellow Flicker Beat
I’m a princess cut from marble, smoother
than a storm
And the scars that mark my body, they’re
silver and gold
My blood is a flood of rubies, precious
stones
It keeps my veins hot, the fires found
a home in me
I move through town, I’m quiet like a fire
And my necklace is of rope, I tie it and
untie it
And now people talk to me, but nothing
ever hits home
And people talk to me, and all the voices
just burn holes
I’m done with it (ooh)
This is the start of how it all ends
They used to shout my name, now they
whisper it
I’m speeding up and this is the
Red, orange, yellow flicker beat sparking up
my heart
We rip the start, the colours disappear
I never watch the stars there’s so much
down here
So I just try to keep up with them
Red, orange, yellow flicker beat sparking up
my heart
I dream all year, but they’re not the sweet
kinds
And the shivers move down my shoulder
blades in double time
And now people talk to me I’m slipping out
of reach now
People talk to me, and all their faces blur
But I got my fingers laced together and
I made a little prison
And I’m locking up everyone who ever laid
a finger on me
I’m done with it (ooh)
This is the start of how it all ends
They used to shout my name, now they
whisper it
I’m speeding up and this is the
Red, orange, yellow flicker beat sparking up
my heart
We rip the start, the colours disappear
I never watch the stars there’s so much
down here
So I just try to keep up with them
Red, orange, yellow flicker beat sparking up
my heart
Oh oh oh

Thinking Out Loud
When your legs don’t work like they used
to before
And I can’t sweep you off of your feet
Will your mouth still remember the taste of
my love
Will your eyes still smile from your cheeks
And darling I will be loving you ‘til we’re 70
And baby my heart could still fall as hard
at 23
And I’m thinking ‘bout how people fall in
love in mysterious ways
Maybe just the touch of a hand
Oh me I fall in love with you every single
day
And I just wanna tell you I am
So honey now
Take me into your loving arms
Kiss me under the light of a thousand stars
Place your head on my beating heart
I’m thinking out loud
Maybe we found love right where we are
When my hair’s all but gone and my
memory fades
And the crowds don’t remember my name
When my hands don’t play the strings
the same way, mm
I know you will still love me the same
‘Cause honey your soul can never grow old,
it’s evergreen
Baby your smile’s forever in my mind and
memory
I’m thinking ‘bout how people fall in love in
mysterious ways
Maybe it’s all part of a plan
I just keep on making the same mistakes
Hoping that you’ll understand
But baby now
Take me into your loving arms
Kiss me under the light of a thousand stars
Place your head on my beating heart
I’m thinking out loud
That maybe we found love right where we
are, oh

Animal Farm, P2:
She sees them walking in a straight line,
that’s not really her style
And they all got the same heartbeat, but
hers is falling behind
Nothing in this world could ever bring
them down
Yeah, they’re invincible, and she’s just in
the background
And she says,

’Cause all the cool kids, they seem to fit in
I wish that I could be like the cool kids,
like the cool kids”

they haven’t got a clue
Yeah, they’re living the good life, can’t see
what he is going through
They’re driving fast cars, but they don’t
know where they’re going
In the fast lane, living life without
knowing.

’Cause all the cool kids, they seem to fit
I wish that I could be like the cool kids,
