HELP LESOTHO ICE BREAKER
Rain Dance
Primary School +
ESTIMATED TIME: 10 minutes
DESCRIPTION: Participants stand in a circle and imitate the leader’s actions to create ‘rain’.
MATERIALS:
• No materials needed
ACTIVITY:
1. Have the participants stand in a circle, and then stand in the middle of the circle.
2. Explain that in this activity there is no talking, but the participants will be imitating your actions.
3. Begin by standing in front of one of the participants and rubbing your hands together (indicate that
the participant should do the same). Then move to the next participant, indicating that he/she should
also begin rubbing his/her hands together. Continue moving around the circle indicating to each
participant you stand in front of for him/her to rub his/her hands together. All participants should
continue with the action until you indicate that they should start the next action.
4. Once you have gone completely around the circle, stand in front of the first participant, this time
indicating that he/she begins to snap his/her fingers. Move around the circle, indicating when each
participant should begin to snap his/her fingers.
5. Once in front of the first participant again, indicate for her/him to begin clapping his/her hands. Move
around the circle, indicating when each participant should begin to clap his/her hands.
6. Once in front of the first participant again, indicate for her/him to begin slapping her/his hands on
her/his thighs. Move around the circle, indicating when each participant should begin to begin to slap
his/her hands on his/her thighs.
7. Once in front of the first participant again, indicate for her/him to begin stomping her/his feet. Move
around the circle, indicating when each participant should begin to stomp his/her feet.
8. At this point, once in front of the first participant, begin going backwards through the different actions
(from stomping your feet, to slapping your hands on your thighs, to clapping your hands, to snapping
your fingers, to rubbing your hands together, to silence), to indicate the quieting of the “rain.”
