Body density based on circumference measurements
Estimation of body density through circumference measurements and other data can be
used to estimate body composition and fat %. It is a non-invasive alternative to skin-fold
measurements and can be administered with the client still clothed. Due to standard
estimated error it is imperative that all measurements are exact.

Circumference measurement protocols and calculator






For male clients, find out the clients weight in kg
Use the correct anatomical landmarks outline in the ‘Anatomical Location’ table
All measurements should be done with a anthropometric, non-elastic measurement
tape
The client should stand upright but relaxed
Pull the tape to the right tension, but do not pinch or cause an indentation of the skin
Perform 2-3 readings per site and calculate the average

Anatomical site
Level with the umbilicus
Standing with the legs no more than 10cm apart, the largest
circumference below the umbilicus
