The Jacobs & Cushman San Diego Food Bank is seeking a Grant Writer with 3-5 years of experience in
the human services sector. Reporting to the Director of Development, this position is responsible for the
research, writing and tracking of all grant submissions.

Established in 1977, The Jacobs & Cushman San Diego Food Bank (Food Bank) is a critical component to
the welfare of San Diego County, providing food to people in need, advocating for the hungry and
educating the public about hunger-related issues. Through a combination of government programs and
partnerships with more than 350 San Diego County nonprofit charities, the Food Bank acts as a central
repository and distribution point for government and donated food. Funded by individuals, foundations,
corporations, local governments and the USDA, the Food Bank distributes more than 20 million pounds
of food annually to individuals, families and a network of nonprofit organizations that work to alleviate

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
This position will focus on implementing grant writing strategies that support the short- and long-term
fundraising goals of the Food Bank. The grant writer’s responsibilities include but are not limited to
writing foundation, corporate foundation, and local government grant proposals, inquiries, reports and
acknowledgements; researching prospective funders; collecting, managing and synthesizing grantrelated information; and maintaining all grant submission records.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
The ideal candidate will have 3-5 years of professional experience and demonstrated success as a grant
writer, preferably within the human services sector; excellent verbal and written communication skills
with the demonstrated ability to influence and engage a wide range of donors; advanced experience
using MS Office products and Convio Common Ground software is strongly preferred; familiarity with
both public and private funding and experience in conducting web-based research is a must; strong
organizational and time management skills with exceptional attention to detail; high energy and passion
for the Food Bank’s mission is essential; and a Bachelor’s degree in a related field, or 3 years of
additional direct experience in lieu of a degree, is preferred.
