Students are expected to analyze the effects of diction and imagery Writing: Write an interpretive response to a literary text that extends beyond a summary and literary analysis Use and understand the function of restrictive and nonrestrictive clauses Lesson Information Activities Lesson 4B.1 (2 days): From I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings and “Caged Bird” Quick write activity: Have students free write about a mentor they have known. o Discussion activity: In small groups, create word webs over the qualities of a mentor. Reference page 254 of the Holt McDougal Literature textbook.
