sharing common attitudes,
interests and goals.
What defines a
community?
Is it history or prosperity? Maybe
cultural heritage or where you call home?
Or is it the compassion shown to those
less fortunate than ourselves?
At FeedMore, we have the opportunity to
see the very definition of community
in action each and every day. So many of
you, whose soul and spirit is dedicated to
providing for those truly in need, helped us
take care of the food insecure throughout
Central Virginia in fiscal year 2015. Thank you for standing with
us and becoming a part of this
community’s story.

Christian Tutwyler is one of those people
whose positive energy is tangible; once you
meet him, you’ll never forget him. As
Coordinator of Volunteer Production,
Tutwyler is dedicated to FeedMore’s mission
to help children, families and seniors who
struggle with hunger across Central Virginia.
He works hand-in-hand with the Child
Nutrition Programs on the weekend BackPack
and healthy snack programs, helping supervise
about 40 volunteers every day. He also assists
with nonperishable grocery sorting and
coordinates the logistics of shuttling donated
and purchased food back and forth between
the Distribution Center and Building II.
“What we do impacts people that we’ll
probably never meet,” said Tutwyler, who
has been with FeedMore over three years. “To
better the lives of someone else…imagine what
their life would be like if we didn’t do this.”

Leading the
Volunteer Experience
“A group within defined
boundaries in which there is
interaction among its members.”
~ Allie
Volunteers are truly the backbone of
FeedMore.
Each and every day, 250 volunteers come
through FeedMore’s doors. These generous
individuals help extend the impact and
reach of our staff and play a vital role in
what goes on behind the scenes to nourish
neighbors in need.
With the volunteer experience in mind, we
created the Volunteer Advisory Council
(VAC). A group of 10 individuals who are
dedicated to helping guide the efforts of our
volunteers, the VAC discusses ways to
enhance the experience of every volunteer
who lends their time and talents to FeedMore.
“We like to think of ourselves as ambassadors
for FeedMore,” said Allie Page, member of
the FeedMore VAC. “We are the voice of the
volunteers.”

Seven Million
Meals and Counting
Tuesday, May 19 was an extra special day for
Helen of Henrico County. The 102-year-old
received her Meals on Wheels delivery on
a silver platter as FeedMore celebrated the
delivery of its seven millionth Meals on
Wheels meal. Chef Amory James, Director of
Food Services at FeedMore, hand delivered
Helen’s meal. All clients received some
variation of the celebratory meal, which
included shaved rib eye, spinach soufflé,
honey-glazed carrots, whole wheat roll, juice
and a celebratory layered cake with icing.
“Different on the outside,
but the same on the inside.”
~ Amory
Since its inception in 1967 when it served
just eight clients, FeedMore’s Meals on
Wheels program has grown hundredfold
and today serves more than 800 clients
across 14 counties and cities. Dedicated to
providing recipients with a daily nutritious
meal, friendly visit and safety check,
FeedMore remains committed to ensuring
homebound seniors receive more than just a
meal and are taken care of in mind, body
and spirit.

“We are dedicated to empowering the
individuals in our care, so they can maintain
a healthy, positive lifestyle and be an active,
contributing member of their community,”
said Angela Darden, Human Resource
Specialist at Rubicon. Since 1970, Rubicon
has been offering treatment for substance
abuse and mental illness. From counseling to

Ensuring Summers
Aren’t Hungry
As many area children look forward to
summer, those that struggle with hunger
wonder where they will find the breakfast
and lunch that they’ve relied on during the
school year. With the help of FeedMore,
there are places children can turn to during
the hungry days of summer.
In 2015, we provided nutritious meals at 52
locations across nine cities and counties
through our Summer Food Service
Program. “With this program, we provide
thousands of meals to at-risk children,” said
Hope Kestle, Child Nutrition Programs
Director at FeedMore. “This ensures that
our region’s children grow and develop with
the nutrition they need to be successful and
thrive when the school year begins in the fall.”

Dining Out for Good
October 20-26, 2014; April 20-26, 2015
During Richmond Restaurant Week, folks across
our region are able to enjoy some of the best food
the city has to offer, while helping neighbors in
need, one meal at a time.
A week-long event that takes place twice a year,
once in the spring and once in the fall, a portion
of each price-fixed meal at 44 participating
restaurants is donated to FeedMore.
Richmond Restaurant Week is a true win-win-win
for the community. Those who dine out get
a delicious meal, restaurants see an uptick in
business and our programs that focus on feeding
hungry children, families and seniors, benefit
significantly from the money raised during these
delectable weeks.

Swimming for Hunger
Relief
Since 1998, the residents of The Virginia Home
have come together to give back to their
community. Dedicated to providing adults who
have permanent physical disabilities with
loving, lifelong residential care, The Virginia
Home’s Annual Aquathon is something special.
“The residents can practice skills in the
water that they may not be able to perform
on land,” said Jody Young, Director of
Recreational Therapy. And what makes the
Aquathon more special, is that residents vote
on which organization they want to support.
FeedMore was voted as the beneficiary of the
2014 Aquathon and residents raised more
than $7,000 to help children, families and
seniors who struggle with hunger.

A Home Built to
Feed More
Eagle Construction is committed to building
more than just houses. Focused on creating
communities where neighbors care about
each other, Eagle is dedicated to constructing
quality, enduring homes that enrich lives.
“We felt the best way to make an impact was
to build a home that would help FeedMore,”
said Amy Wilcox, Sales Manager at Eagle
Construction. “We love our community and
wanted to do something that would raise
awareness about the serious issue of hunger.”
95.8 %
of every dollar
donated goes
directly towards
our programs.
With that in mind, Eagle constructed a
four-bedroom, 2,780-square-foot house in
Goochland County to benefit FeedMore. And
benefit it has! When the FeedMore House sold
in June 2015, Eagle donated more than
$80,000 to help provide hunger relief to
neighbors in need.
“It is all about family,
friends and helping those
who are less fortunate.”

Dear donors, volunteers and friends:
What an extraordinary year for FeedMore! With your unwavering support and generosity we have been able to
make an ever-increasing impact on those in our community who need it most. What exactly did your gifts of
time and money help us accomplish?
Together, we gave families hope in their times of despair. Leveraging the strength and reach of our 320 partner
agencies, we provided families who struggle to make ends meet with healthy meals in emergency times. Our
Mobile Pantry helped families who live in food deserts, providing them with a variety of perishable and
nonperishable food for well-balanced meals. We helped many families who are forced to make tough choices
between basic necessities like food, medicine and shelter. With your support, we put meals on their tables
while taking that hard decision off their plate.
Together, we provided food-insecure children with the nutritious meals they need to learn, grow and most
importantly, thrive. Our Kids Cafe and weekend BackPack programs gave at-risk children across our region a
fighting chance for success. With a full stomach, these young boys and girls are ready to learn and can
concentrate better in school. Additionally, our Summer Food Service Program provided thousands of students
with a healthy breakfast and lunch to develop with the nutrition they need to be successful when the next
school year begins in the fall.
Together, we ensured our homebound seniors were taken care of in mind, body and spirit. By keeping our
senior, disabled and chronically-ill recipients safe, independent and living in their own homes, we helped these
neighbors feel loved and connected to the outside world.
You are a member of the FeedMore community that makes a real, tangible difference in our recipients’ lives.
And the trust you have in us as evidenced by your gifts and support is very much appreciated. With our eyes
toward the future and our hands in the present, you will continue to see us focus additional attention on
collective impact to effectively break the cycle of hunger and collaborate with community leaders and other
non-profits to create strategic partnerships that benefit the greater good. With the support of our more than
20,000 donors and 9,000 amazing volunteers each year, we remain committed to serving the 207,000
food-insecure individuals in our region.
Thank you for your commitment to our mission and for standing beside us as we fight hunger in Central Virginia.
Your continued support is so needed and appreciated.
