Weekly Plans for Ms. Hinton’s Classes September 22, 2014 Note to parents: I will update my grades each Sunday. If for some reason I cannot update at that time, I will notify you through my weekly plans page. English 9 Monday – Students will identify and write thesis sentences. Tuesday – Students will choose a topic for their essay on “The Scarlet Ibis” and make a pre-write. Wednesday –Students will write a thesis statement and concrete details for their literary analysis essay. Thursday – Students will complete a shaping the essay form and complete concrete detail and commentary for their essay. Friday – How to compose an interesting introductory paragraph for an essay, and the concluding paragraph will be discussed and rough drafts of these paragraphs will be written. Pre-AP English 9 Monday –Students will view a powerpoint on allusion. We will also discuss Napoleon and Wellington/Caesar and Brutus as allusions in the chapters read over the weekend. Tuesday – Students will write a personal response based on various prompts. Wednesday – Students will be working with inference and inferences that can be made about several characters in the novel. Thursday – The class will discuss Peter and Valentine and their assumption of the personas of Demosthenes and Locke. Students will choose a person from history as their persona and present an explanation of their choice to the class. Friday – Analysis of the role of adults in the novel will be completed using a graphic organizer. English 11 Monday – Students will view Act II and Act III of “The Crucible” movie. Tuesday – Students will focus on the three types of irony, and irony in “The Crucible.” Wednesday – Students will view a powerpoint on symbolism in literature, and in groups will discuss and identify symbolism in the play. Thursday –Students will begin reading Act IV, the final Act of the play. Friday – Act IV will be completed. Discussion of theme will follow as time allows. AP Language and Composition Monday – Students will view Act II and Act III of “The Crucible” movie. ACT Preparation Class – Chad Cargill Study Guide Monday –Use of apostrophes. Tuesday –Use of transitions, coherence, unity, style and tone. Wednesday – Students will continue practice with transitions, coherence, unity, style and tone. Thursday – Continued practice with all questions and issues being addressed during class. Friday –Students will review issues with substandard English ex. Than/then, farther/further, its/it’s, double prepositions, etc.
