Jean Schiltz
October 6, 1939 - September 11, 2016
Jean (McNeill) Schiltz, age 76, died at her home in Heritage Ranch, on Sunday, September 11, 2016. Her death resulted from
a 17-month ordeal with pancreatic cancer. Jean was born, raised, and formally educated in the San Fernando Valley area
adjacent to Los Angeles, CA, which makes her an authentic “Valley Girl”. Jean graduated from Van Nuys High School in 1957,
and received a B.S. in History from California State University Northridge in 1965. She and John met and were married in
Granada Hills, CA in 1965, and during the 51 years of their marriage they lived in Lawrence, KS, Philadelphia, PA, Shaker
Heights, OH, Ramsey, NJ, Coppell, TX, and Heritage Ranch in Fairview, TX. During her working years, she has served as a
high school and college librarian, teacher, Girl Scout leader, bookkeeper, and tax preparer for a national chain. Jean and
John built and moved into their Heritage Ranch home in 2006, and Jean was a charter member who remained active in the
Storytellers Club, organized the Pelican Hills monthly women’s Birthday luncheon, and was an active participant in
neighborhood Bunco and other games.
She is survived by her husband, John Raymond Schiltz of the home. Jean and John have two children and seven
grandchildren. Their son, John Francis Schiltz resides with his family in Carmel, IN, and their daughter Catherine Elizabeth
Stipanovic and her family live in Plano, TX. Jean is also survived by her sister Joleen Wiley from Glendale, AZ, and numerous
nieces, nephews, and extended family in CA, NM, AZ, KS, MO, NY, and NJ.
An inurnment will be held at Bellemont Cemetery in Wathena, Kansas where other family members are laid to rest. Wathena,
Kansas, is John’s home town that sits on the Missouri River in Northeast Kansas. Upon his death, John’s remains will be
placed beside her.
Jean’s family and friends are invited to a remembrance gathering being held from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., Sunday, September
18, 2016 at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home in Allen, TX.

Cathy and family, I am so sorry for the loss of your precious mom and
grandmother. I will always remember her coming to Christie to support you and
your boys. My prayer is that God will lift you and your family up at this sad
time and grant you peace. Ecclesiastes 3:1-4 For everything there is a season,
and a time for every matter under heaven: a time to be born, and a time to die;
a time to plant, and a time to pluck up what is planted; a time to heal; a time to
break down, and a time to build up; a time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time
to mourn, and a time to dance. Hugs my sweet friend, Susan Purcell

Jean has been like a sister to me since we met at KU while John was working
on his PhD. So many happy memories from parking cars in our yard right
across the street from KU's stadium; getting a bucket of chicken and watching
the Chiefs and visiting Jean & John in Phillie, Shaker Heights, Coppell, and
Heritage Ranch. I could go on and on. I have treasured our friendship and will
forever. Rest in peace, Jean. God Bless.

PAT AND SUSAN HOWARD, SEPTEMBER 14, 2016
I send my most sincere condolences to John in particular, your two children
and seven grandchildren. I am so sorry for your huge loss. I was deeply
saddened to hear this and though I never met Jean, I knew from corresponding
with John over the years what an amazing woman Jean was, for all of her
family, but also for all she met. I would like to conclude by including a poem
that has a profund message, I think. I am so sad for you all. Kind regards,
Bente Hjortshøj Norway Do not stand at my grave and weep, I am not there, I
do not sleep. I am a thousand winds that blow. I am the diamond glint on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain. I am the gentle autumn rain. When you
wake in the morning hush, I am the swift, uplifting rush Of quiet birds in circling
flight. I am the soft starlight at night. Do not stand at my grave and weep. I am
not there, I do not sleep. (Do not stand at my grave and cry. I am not there, I
did not die! Mary Frye (1932)

Dear John, Joleen, John, Jr., Cathy, family and friends. I want to send my love
and sympathy at this time of loss. Jean was such a wonderful person in so
many ways. May we all keep our memories for her safely in our hearts. She
was a dear, long time, friend for over 65 years. Growing up as "Valley Girls" in
Van Nuys on Vose St. where Jean and I lived, we attended Robert Fulton Jr.
High School, Van Nuys High School and eventually California State University
Northridge. I will be thinking of her during her Remembrance Gathering on
Sunday. May she Rest in Peace. Blessings to all. Sally
