Pick Up Procedure Reminder
Utsalady is continually looking at ways to ensure the safety of our students while they are
being dropped off and picked up at school. Make sure the office staff is aware of any changes
in your student’s normal transportation home. Changes in transportation home need to be
made no later than 3:00pm to ensure your child gets the notification in time. Students are
not allowed to change their permanent take home plan, or go home with others without a
call or note from a parent . All students leaving early and/or picked up from school must be
signed out. Each day after school, various staff members will be out to make sure the
students leave safely. Please follow their guidance, as they help direct traffic and enforce
school procedures.
We thank you for your cooperation and help keeping Utsalady students safe.

Science Fair
The Science Fair is a Booster
Club sponsored event that
encourages students to let
their curiosity soar while
applying the Scientific Method
to help find the answer to
their questions. A Scientific
question is one that begins
with Who, What, When,
Where, Why, and How. When
you have your question you
need to answer it using a
Collection, Research, or
Experimental project.
Information packets with
complete rules, Scientific
project paperwork, and
Science display boards are
available in the office.
The purpose of a Science Fair
is to provide a fun and exciting
venue for students to explore
their world. In doing so they
are able to make discoveries
and fantastic experiments!
Share your ideas and
experiments at the Science
Fair which will be held on
Tuesday, February 28th. The
fair will begin at 6:00pm and
the award ceremony at
6:30pm in the Utsalady gym.
Please bring your projects in
to the gym and set up before
class on the morning of the
28th.
Don’t forget to check the
display board in the school
hallway with flyers showing
ideas and outlines to use for
the fair.
If you have questions or
would like to volunteer, please
contact:
Michelle Huntley Gause at
[email protected] or
call her at (360)722-0512.
Utsalady students got to participate in their first Eagle Enrichment afternoon for the
school year on December 15th. The classrooms were buzzing with excitement as they
were learning and experiencing new things for the two hour session.
Teachers, as well as specialists enjoyed spending time with students they may not usually
get to work with.
The Flu is particularly bad this year!
Symptoms of the Flu can include fever, cough sore throat, runny or stuffy nose,
body aches, headache, chills, fatigue and sometimes vomiting and diarrhea
(more common in kids than adults).
People with the Flu can infect others 1 day before getting sick to 5-7 days after.
The CDC recommends keeping your child home for at least 24 hours after a
fever is gone. A fever is defined as 100 degrees F or higher. If your student is
vomiting or has severe diarrhea they must also stay home 24 hours after their
symptoms have resolved. Thank You for helping UES stay healthy.
Second Meeting of the Utsalady Parent
Advisory Council
Join Mrs. Keller and Mrs. Knight for another
meeting of the Parent Advisory Council (PAC)
on Wednesday, February 8 at 10:30 in Room
12. We will review and discuss the district
student-parent-teacher compact and look over
intervention ideas that benefit all our students.
Mrs. Keller and Mrs. Knight can also answer
other questions parents bring to the meeting.
While the meeting is sponsored by the
Learning Assistance Program (LAP), all parents
are encouraged and welcomed to participate.
So plan to come and bring a friend!

life. Overnight camp is May 25th-26th. Camp is
held at Warm Beach, Stanwood.

2017-18 Parent Request
Student placements are carefully thought out and organized by Utsalady staff. The first priority
is to provide the teacher and students with well -balanced classrooms: academic performance,
Special Services, behavior, male/female, emotional needs and peer relationships. If you have a
specific concern and /or request you would like to be considered when placing your child,
please pick up a form in the office. Your concern and/or request will be taken into
consideration, but is not guaranteed. Forms are due to the office no later than Friday, April
28th.
YMCA Daycare at Utsalady
YMCA is wanting to provide a daycare here at Utsalady and hope to have it up and
running by mid January. The hours will be 6:30am-8:35am and 3:30pm-6:30pm.
Parents/guardians will be responsible for transportation to and from school. Watch for
more information regarding costs and registration. If you are interested, please call the
office with your name and number.
Be safe and have fun!
Benchmark Assessment Period
January
will mark another benchmark assessment period where we reassess all students in the similar
assessments as we did in September to make a check on how our students are progressing in the
areas of reading and math. We will use AIMSweb assessments for all students and the Measures
of Academic Progress (MAP) assessments for second grade students. The information is looked
over by staff and instructional changes may take place. This is also the information looked at by
the LAP staff for inclusion in the LAP program. We just want students to do their very best effort
and let us see their great growth. If you have any questions on the benchmark assessing, please
see your child’s teacher or Julie Knight in the LAP reading room #12.
