directly on the checkout conveyor. Sales personnel can use a hand terminal
to block access to tobacco products by minors.

The SMOKYTHEK under-counter version
The new SMOKYTHEK under-counter version uses
material handling technology that is similar to the
s­olution used on its “older brother”. The tobacco
products are stored underneath the checkout conveyor.
The selection panel is mounted on the packet lift directly
at the checkout counter.
Once a customer presses the button for his or her ­favorite
brand, the SMOKYTHEK under-counter version delivers
the pack to the checkout conveyor right next to the cashier.
In close cooperation with the checkout counter supplier we will match color and appearance, so that the customer
perceives the counter as an attractive, uniform piece of furniture.
The entire checkout area has a clear-cut, orderly appearance.

Innovations
Pushbuttons with a familiar design facilitate selection by end customers.
The dimensions of the selection panel were significantly reduced, and only the most important information was
retained to save space in the compact checkout zone.
Color codes indicate system status:
■ red
= SMOKYTHEK is locked
■ yellow = SMOKYTHEK operation in p­ rogress
■ green = SMOKYTHEK is unlocked
The placeholder for the card reader is also located on the selection panel. An electronic
­solution will be available to meet expected legal tobacco sale requirements.
The SMOKYTHEK under-counter version draws on cutting-edge hardware and software technology. The hardware has serial and USB ports to provide connectivity to state-of-the-art components including touch screens, laptops, etc.
More memory is available to hold statistical data. The system features ­simple,
practical connectivity to the cash
­register. Sales data, barcodes and chute
­information can be read and analyzed.

The selection unit
Since the development of the under-counter version, a stateof-the-art, future-proof selection unit has been available on all
SMOKYTHEK versions.
Besides the familiar selection unit with pushbuttons, customers
can also choose a touch screen option for product selection.
When the unit is idle, advertising can be displayed on the PC-based
monitor at the point of sale.

Stereo – twice the benefits
The familiar SMOKYTHEK SMT 30, SMT 60 and SMT 88 models are
available in stereo versions.
The SMOKYTHEK stereo version dispenses cigarettes on two sides.
It is the ideal solution at tandem checkout desks and in small stores where a
single SMOKYTHEK can service two separate checkout desks.
On separate checkout desks, the cigarettes are delivered to the checkout
­conveyor on one side and to a basket on the other side. On tandem checkout
desks, the cigarettes are placed on both checkout conveyors.
Slides are provided to compensate for small gaps between the checkout
­conveyors.

Low profile checkout zone with the SMOKYTHEK The further development of the low-profile selection panel creates new, additional applications for the
familiar SMOKYTHEK.
The compact dimensions of the base counter save space at the checkout counter and create a more orderly workspace for checkout personnel.
The selection panel used to be mounted on the candy rack, but it is now attached to the body of the SMOKYTHEK
SMT 88 base cabinet.
The new base cabinet selection panel has only 84 buttons, which is less that the SMOKYTHEK SMT 88, but it
can hold the same amount of packs (1,000).
A matching candy rack is available to hold attractive impulse items at the POS.

The shelving system Customers can still have a comprehensive selection at hand of candy, razor blades,
­batteries and other small items in the checkout area. The HARTING shelving system adds
the finishing touch to the presentation of impulse articles in this zone.
The shelving system is mounted as an extension to the SMOKYTHEK at the checkout conveyor.
The basic models are 1.30 m and 1.40 m high and 0.80 m wide.
This maximum overall height provides the optimal solution for tomorrow’s checkout area.
Customers can choose the number and depth of the shelves. The depth can be varied in 5 cm
increments.

There are a few shelves on the front next to the
­selection panel and more shelves on the back which
can be used to display a wide variety of products.
The new multi-purpose rack offers space for
­impulse items on both sides of the checkout. 
Hook rails mounted on the end provide space for
displays and for hanging items.
