Class of the Week – 6L For visual arts in Quality Teaching Groups 6L have been learning about creating value scales for shading to bring depth to their drawings. They viewed and discussed the ‘still life’ artworks of famous artist like Paul Cezanne and Vincent Van Gogh, then experimenting with shading techniques they created their own ‘still life’ artworks. Below are four examples for you to enjoy! Aaron Blabey Visit On the 12th of June 2015 Aaron Blabey who is an Ambassador of the Madeline and Alana Foundation came to our school for National Buddy Day where students wore purple. We brought our buddy bears that are provided in our Marayong Mates group by Better Buddies. To start off he read Stanley Paste, Pig the Pug, Pig the Fibber and Thelma the Unicorn. He then taught us how to draw Stanley Paste and Pig the Pug. We were very fortunate to have him read some of his unpublished books The Bad Guys, Piranha’s don’t eat Bananas, Pig the Winner and Pig the Elf. We were the first school to see and read these books. Our leaders, Tayla and Mitchell, presented him with a gift that was a mug and a key ring with our emblem on them. We were very fortunate to have him come to our school and hopefully he will come back in the future with new books and let the future students of this school enjoy it as much as we did. By Jasmine, Yuki and Tayla The Student’s Reactions Funny, Humorous, Inspiring, Great Rhyming, Sense of Humour, Entertaining, Amazing, Awesome, Smart, Fantastic, Pugtastic, Fibber Fun. Class of the Week – 6L 6L have been learning to write strong character descriptions using highly descriptive vocabulary, noun groups and using ‘show’ rather than ‘tell’ sentences. Using the picture prompt below 6L as a class jointly constructed ‘Skyler Jones’. Skyler Jones – 6L Character Description She came in valiantly on her noble majestic steed, not looking back as she rode into battle. Her long hair the colour of moonlit waters glistening on the surface. As she enters the deserted dark forest she triggers deadly powerful traps that send her enemies crushing to the ground or cowardly running for the dark hollows of the trees. She manoeuvres her powerful horse with ease as she uses her melodic voice to guide the horse away from the deadly spears that approach like slivers of lightening from behind. Her protective armour conceals her glorious muscular physique. She is the sun burning through enemy lines with a heavy and purposeful charge.
