Uniform and Grooming UNIFORM St Peter’s College Students are expected to wear their uniform in accordance with the regulations set down by the Board of Trustees. Students should wear their uniform with respect for themselves and pride in their school. This includes from the time they leave for school and until they arrive home. In all uniform matters, the Principal’s judgement is final. All items should be named. Gillespies are our Uniform Supplier. They are located on Main Street in the Terrace End Shops, Palmerston North (Ph: 357 7685) Regulation refers to an item of branded or St Peter’s-specific clothing only available from Gillespies or from the PTFA second-hand uniform sales advertised in newsletters and on the College website. Summer Uniform: worn in TERM 1 and from Labour Weekend in Term 4. Winter Uniform: worn in TERMS 2 & 3 Transition: for the period between the start of Term 4 and Labour Weekend, either summer or winter uniform may be worn – NOT A MIXTURE. Winter uniform is the dress uniform, and will be expected on formal occasions. Look at the UNIFORM GALLERY on our school website for photos of uniform items. Blazer A regulation uniform blazer may be borrowed from S1 for formal occasions. It is a requirement for students in leadership programmes (eg; Ambassadors) to role-model sun smart behaviour. Junior girls Skirt; Regulation Black watch tartan skirt (should be worn mid-calf length), white long sleeved blouse, Jersey; bottle green regulation jersey with crest and two fine gold stripes, Stockings; black panty hose or knee length stockings. Shoes; black shoes (see note below). Senior boys Trousers; Regulation charcoal-grey dress trousers or a matching pair from another supplier (alternative styles such as skinny leg pants or alternative colours of any sort are NOT acceptable), Shirt; Regulation shirt OR white business type shirt with normal colour (not button-down), Tie; Regulation, Jersey; navy regulation jersey with crest and two fine gold stripes, Socks; short black or dark grey dress socks. Shoes; black shoes (see note below). Senior girls Skirt; Regulation Black watch tartan skirt (should be worn mid-calf length), white long sleeved blouse, Jersey; navy regulation jersey with crest and two fine gold stripes, Tie; Regulation, Stockings; black panty hose or knee length stockings. Shoes; black shoes (see note below). Rain coats and jackets Students can wear a plain black rain, walking or puffa-type jacket (Hoodies are not an acceptable jacket) – school sports jackets or other school sportswear are NOT part of uniform. NOT TO BE WORN IN CLASS. Scarf An official St Peter’s College dark green/navy striped scarf is available. This or a plain dark green, navy or black scarf may be worn. No other scarves to be worn. NOT TO BE WORN IN CLASS. Hat NO branded hats should worn with uniform AT ANY TIME. A plain dark green, navy or black beanie may be worn in winter. NOT TO BE WORN IN CLASS. PE UNIFORM Juniors Regulation green shorts and house coloured t-shirts or regulation green sports polo shirt. Seniors Students in core PE, Sport Studies and PE Studies should wear appropriate sport mufti for their classes. SPORTS UNIFORM The majority of sports teams will be supplied with uniforms from the Sports Department. These must be returned in a clean condition after the sports event, if not parents will be invoiced for the replacement uniform. Some teams, however, will need to wear the Lotto polo shirt and shorts when representing the College. Students will be notified of this prior to representing the College. Uniform and Grooming SHOES In winter they should be standard black polishable leather – lace up or buckled. Use the images as a guide. They should not be any sort of branded or unbranded sport or skate shoe even if ‘school shoe’ or ‘good for school’ is written on the box. Skate shoes, pumps, slip-ons, sports shoes or boots are not acceptable. Summer uniform sandals should be black standard school type and must have a heel strap – they are to be worn without socks and should not have any type of lace or strap that lies up above the ankle. GROOMING HAIR Must always be clean and tidy. Junior students (boys and girls) must have long hair tied back – off the face and off the shoulder. Senior students may wear it down in a neat/combed/brushed style. Hair clips/ties must be white, black or dark green. Hair should be one natural colour. Colours such a blue, green, yellow, pink, purple etc are not natural hair colours. Any multi-colours (even combinations of ‘natural’ colours) are not part of uniform regulations at St Peter’s College. No rat’s tails, dread locks or be in a Mohawk style. Students should not be fully shaven. Use ‘Number 4’ as a guide for the shortest acceptable all-over cut. Hair should not have patterns, symbols or words of any sort shaved into it. Male students must be clean shaven. JEWELLERY No jewellery unless a taonga or religious necklace worn under uniform. One ear stud/thin sleeper ring per ear No other piercings are to be worn at all. No bracelets No finger rings NAIL POLISH AND MAKE UP Not to be worn at school. This includes eyeliner, lip-gloss and nail varnish. False nails are not to be worn. EXTRA CLOTHING Must not be seen. T-shirts must NOT be visible. Socks may not be worn over pantyhose. BADGES Only official St Peter’s College badges and Duke of Edinburgh badges may be worn. OTHER No ‘Hoodies’ No bandanas of any type to wear anywhere or in any way. No visible tattoos.
