DOROTHEA LANGE KAISHA WRIGHT 1ST PERIOD BIOGRAPHY Dorothea Lange was born May 26, 1895. She died October 11, 1965. She got polio when she was only 7 years old. Because of the polio she got a permanent limp. In 1920 she married Maynard Dixon who was a western painter. In Dec. 1935 she divorced Dixon and married Paul Taylor. She had 5 children before the time she died. CAREER She went to school at Columbia University. She moved to San Francisco in 1918. She opened a successful portrait studio in San Francisco. She took many pictures of the less fortunate. A lot of her work came from the Great Depression. From 1935 to 1939 she worked for the resettlement administration. The resettlement administration was an association that focused on the poor and forgotten. CAREER Then she worked for the Japanese American internment which is an association that formed after the attack of Pearl Harbor. Lange took pictures for the Japanese American internment. In 1952 she co-founded the photogenic magazine the Aperture. In the mid 1950s she shot a documentary for Life Magazine. HER WORK During the time of the resettlement administration she did her most famous work “migrant mother” Migrant mother was taken during the Great Depression. Dorothea Lange also had a lot of work during the Japanese American internment. DEATH AND LEGACY Lange died October 11, 1965. She died of esophageal cancer. After Lange died she still was an inspiration to everyone. After she died she even got an elementary school named after her. On May 28, 2008 she was put in the California hall of fame.
