COUNTRY FLAG IN ONE HAND AND A SWORD IN THE OTHER, Vasco Balboa, the
first European to see the legendary Mar del Sur, walked into the “southern sea” claiming it for Spain.
Hoping to find gold and pearls, it had taken Balboa and his small company of men three weeks to cross
the Isthmus of Panama where they found the sea, but no treasures. It’s your turn to explore these
wild, wonderful lands, though your journey will be anything but arduous as you set sail between two
seas—gathering unforgettable memories and experiences.
Days 2-6
Balboa did things a little differently, and so will you.
An explorer’s dream, discover an array of wildlife
and wild lands over the days ahead. Amidst the
jungle forests of Curú Wildlife Refuge, Manuel
Antonio National Park, and Corcovado—Costa
Rica’s largest park—search the canopy above
and forest floor below for spider monkeys,
scarlet macaws, many-colored tanagers, twoand three-toed sloths, army ants, tree frogs,
caimans, anteaters, butterflies, and white-faced
capuchin monkeys. As you meander about,
keep a keen ear peeled for screeching howler
monkeys. Along the tranquil, coconut palm-lined
beaches of Isla Tortuga and Coiba’s Granito de
Oro, a snorkel and flippers reveals the colorful
world below the water’s surface. The vibrant
gardens, butterflies and bats, and exotic fruits
of a tropical botanical reserve are a feast for the
senses. And not to be out-done, take a spin
in a kayak or board a skiff and explore the rare
flora and fauna of the Golfo Dulce mangroves.
Adventure awaits you, and at the end of each
day, enjoy the sunset with a tropical beverage
in-hand retelling stories with your travel-mates.
Days 7-8
It’s your last full day and it’s captain’s choice
for the ultimate experience bobbing around
the Gulf of Panama Islands. There are
excellent birding opportunities, or perhaps
you’ll find yourself in a tiny village at Panama’s
oldest church. Later today, sail into the sunset
and experience one of the top bucket-list
destinations on earth—transit the 48-mile-long
Panama Canal, a marvel of engineering and
human tenacity. During your transit, celebrate
with a special farewell dinner. Awake to a tasty
breakfast, then disembark, and enjoy a scenic
transfer to the airport for your flight home, or
for your post-cruise extension.
FARES INCLUDE
All onboard meals; premium spirits, fine wine, microbrews; non-alcoholic beverages; exclusive transfers and
baggage handling between airport/vessel on embark/disembark days; port fees and taxes; entry fees to national parks/
preserves; all from-the-boat adventure activities and equipment; wellness program: sauna, fitness equipment, yoga
mats, and a complimentary massage. Note: Dec 23 & 30 are 8 nights (1-night hotel plus 7-night cruise).
