CBNW annual enrichment conference
MARCH 7-9, 2016 • SEASIDE, OREGON
movement
CBNW annual enrichment conference
Welcome back to Seaside. For those of you who
are coming for the first time, we are very excited
to have you join our family of churches. Our
gathering this year will focus on addressing barriers
that prevent our churches from accomplishing the
mission to which God has called us to. We will seek
the scripture and aim to honestly evaluate where we
need to grow as a covenant community on mission.
Central to mission is prayer. We have developed
two new prayer opportunities. First, an
interactive, guided prayer time each morning.
Second, an area association prayer gallery.
Relationships are central to our covenant
community. We have put together some new
strategic ways for you to connect with your brothers
and sisters. In this booklet, you will find information
about our lunch buddies, AEC after hours, and
Tuesday afternoon activities such as golfing,
Fascination, clamming, and even roller skating.
We have been praying that you will be blessed
and that you will get to bless others through
participating together in this year’s Enrichment
Conference. We hope that you are able to relax
in the beauty of the Oregon Coast and take
advantage of many of the attractions and amenities.
It is our desire that you will find opportunities to
connect with old friends and make new ones.
Blessings,
The CB Northwest Team

SEMINARS
AEC PRAYER
OPPORTUNITIES
This year as we have our focus on mission we understand that one of
the greatest missional endeavors we could do is to pray. Prayer has
got to be central for our churches to be effective witnesses. We have
designed two new opportunities for strategic prayer as a gathered
covenant community.
First, there is an Area Association Prayer Gallery in the Pacific Room for
the duration of the conference. Each association has submitted prayer
requests, and there is a place for you to sign your name indicating
that you prayed for them. You will also be able to add to the requests
and even let that trustee know if you can meet one of the needs. You
are invited to spend time praying in this gallery individually, with your
spouse, with your church, or as a group of churches. You may take
pictures of the posters to take with you for continued prayer.
Second, we have designed two interactive prayer gatherings at 8:00 AM
on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings. Tuesday morning, we will meet in
the Convention Center lobby for a guided prayer walk (weather permitting).
Bring your Bible and wear a good pair of walking shoes! Wednesday
morning, we will meet in the lobby to work our way around the Area
Association Prayer Gallery.
We hope that the environment and content of the conference will
prompt you to spend time in prayer communing with the Lord and
others.

THE MESS OF MINISTRY:
BECAUSE IT SPILLS EVERYWHERE
Speaker: Kari & Jeff Patterson
Kari Patterson is a beloved daughter of God, and her life’s aim is
to please her Father. She is married to Pastor Jeff, and together
they raise two quirky kiddos and lead a Christ-centered community of believers called Renew Church. She holds a Master’s
Degree in Pastoral Studies from Multnomah Seminary, speaks
at women’s conferences, and writes at www.karipatterson.com.
This workshop will be led by Jeff and Kari together. Kari was last
year’s speaker at Women’s Camp, and is thrilled to come speak
again this year.
Description:
There’s no such thing as neat and tidy ministry. Ministry is messy
because people are messy. Plus, working in vocational ministry
means our job is our church and our church is our job and our
family is our job and our church is our friends and ... it’s just all
very messy. There is no part of life that’s “off the clock” and
there is no sphere of life that remains untouched by all that is
“ministry.” It spills everywhere. So how do we survive? Together
we’ll see what it looks like to live seamlessly, where family and
church and friends and life are one, but in a way that breathes
life to our souls, glorifies our God, and speaks hope to a
watching world.
CAN A MINISTER EVER RETIRE?
Speaker: Chris Elkins
Chris Elkins is the relationship manager from GuideStone Financial
Resources for the NWCBA 403(b) Retirement Plan. He is the primary
point of contact for churches who would like to get involved in the
plan or have questions about the plan’s provisions. He has served
at GuideStone since September 1999. For nearly twenty years,
previous to his tenure at GuideStone, he served as a staff minister
in churches in Arkansas, Mississippi and Texas. He grew up in New
Mexico and has been married to Minni since 1978. They have two
children and five grandchildren. Chris is an ordained minister, has
earned a master’s degree in communication and holds a Charter
Retirement Plan Counselor (CRPC) license from the College of
Financial Planning.
Description:
Most ministers feel called for a lifetime. So, how does a retirement
plan fit into that sense of mission? This seminar will explore this topic
by examining the factors that ministers can manage in preparing for
the future and the factors that can’t be managed, but are significant
in retirement planning. Understanding the features of the NWCBA
403(b) Retirement Plan and how churches and ministers participate
will also be discussed.
PASTORS’ WIVES’ RETREAT:
MARY IN A MARTHA WORLD
Speaker: Sherrie Ashcraft
Sherrie Ashcraft, former pastor’s wife, retired missionary, and
currently Director of Women’s Ministries at Wapato Valley Church
in Gaston, Oregon, will share how we can be a Mary in a Martha
World.
Description:
As wives of pastors and church workers, how can we integrate our
desire to spend time with Jesus and grow in our spiritual lives with
the daily reality of the demands around us?

SEX ADDICTION TSUNAMI AND
BIBLICAL WHOLENESS
Speaker: Glen Maiden
Rev. Glen Maiden earned his doctorate in the Theology of
Addiction, masters in New Testament and Christian Education,
and his B.A. in Bible and Biblical Languages. Glen serves as pastor,
internet teacher, financial consultant, visiting professor, and is a
Certified Sex Addiction Therapist Candidate through IITAP. See
more at www.glenmaiden.com.
Description:
Sex Addiction Tsunami examines current statistics on cybersex
in the North American church and the restoration of Biblical
wholeness to our families.
THE REDEMPTIVE-MOVEMENT HERMENEUTIC: AN
EVALUATION OF ITS BENEFITS AND DANGERS
Speaker: Gary Derickson
Dr. Gary Derickson has served for 25 years as Professor of Bible
and Greek at Corban University and is Department Chair for Bible
and Theology in Corban’s School of Ministry. He earned his Ph.D.
in Bible Exposition from Dallas Theological Seminary, specializing in
hermeneutics. He wrote the notes on 1-3 John in the Nelson Study
Bible, has coauthored The Disciplemaker with Dr. Earl Radmacher,
and published 1-3 John in the Evangelical Exegetical Commentary
series by Lexham Press (FaithLife/Logos). He has completed a Biblical
Theology of the Johannine Epistles for Lexham Press, and a novel for
Lampion Press, both which should go to print sometime this year.
Description:
In his book, Women, Slaves, and Homosexuals, William Webb
proposed an approach to applying Scripture that is being used by
various groups to dismiss those commands of Scripture that contradict
their views or practices. William Webb has proposed a new approach
to interpreting and applying the commands of Scripture. He argues
that God accommodated His commands to the cultures of the
authors’ day. Our ethically higher culture calls for a “better” application
beyond what Scripture commands, even making it wrong, at times,
10
to obey the commands as God gave them. His approach will be
explained and then evaluated, both for its positive contribution to the
study and application of Scripture, as well as its attack on the authority,
and ultimately inspiration, of Scripture. A conservative evangelical
response to this hermeneutic will be provided.
MOBILIZING DISCIPLESHIP
Speaker: Ginny Jensen
Ginny serves with WorldVenture, mobilizing churches in member care
and development of future workers. She is passionate about preparing
individuals and the church body for cross-cultural partnership. Coupled
with her natural coaching skill, Ginny has earned a Bachelor of Science
in Biblical Education from Multnomah University, a Certificate in
Transformational Coaching from Western Seminary and is a member
of the International Coaching Federation. Her 20 years of working in
the local church gives her an understanding of the challenges churches
face in developing and caring for their people.
Description:
We all want to be missional, but sometimes our ideas of
discipleship get in the way. Join the discussion on how we can
approach discipleship for growth and Kingdom advance.
e
CHAPLAINCY REPORTS & PRAYER
Facilitator: Chaplain Andy Meverden & Participating Chaplains
Director of Chaplaincy for CBAmerica since January 1, 2015, Andy
served a total of 40 years in the military, the last 26 as a chaplain
in the US Army, Army Reserve and National Guard. Prior to and
concurrent with his military service, he served with CBFMS in
Portugal (’79-’88); as a pastor in CB churches in California and
Colorado (’90-’03), and as Full-time Support and Command
Chaplain with the Colorado National Guard (’03-’14).
Description:
Chaplains endorsed by CBAmerica, both military and civilian, will
share ministry updates and prayer concerns for which the group
will pray. Conference attendees interested in learning about current
chaplaincy ministries or desiring to pray for our chaplains are
invited to attend, listen, ask questions, and pray.

TOOLS TO MINISTER HIS GRACE ONE TO ANOTHER
Speaker: Jason Willoughby
Dr. Jason Willoughby has pastored churches in the Pacific NW
for over twenty years, specializing in equipping, encouraging,
and mobilizing God’s people for outreach. His great burden is
to empower your people to penetrate our post-Christian culture
with the gospel in new, effective ways.
Description:
Sometimes we’re paralyzed and need four friends to bring us
to Jesus. This workshop looks at the role the community plays
in ministering the reality of Christ to one another. We’ll take
a biblical look at the corporate, interpersonal side of staying
warmly connect to Christ’s love and freeing power each day.
Then we’ll practice various group exercises that escort others to
the Person and resources of Christ.
WORSHIP 1, 2, 3
Speaker: Nate Dunn
Nate Dunn has served as the Director of Worship and Arts at Salem
First Baptist for 11 years. He and his wife, Liz, have been married
18 years. They have three children who are all musical, and they
love to sing together as a family. When they’re not singing/writing/
recording they are playing sports together.
Description:
Worship has 1 object/author, 2 contexts, and 3 audiences. We’ll
dig into the Scripture to see how the gospel shapes our worship,
forming us into a deepening community of Christ followers as we
exalt the Triune God. You’ll also see how worship, when centered
on the gospel, offers the clear message of redemption to the
watching world without compromising truth, depth, or richness.
Join us for this session if you long to see your community more
unified in worship, growing in strength as believers, encouraging
one another in fellowship, and then living out the great commission.

THE SABBATICAL AS A TOOL FOR
LONG-TERM MINISTRY HEALTH
Speakers: Dwight Bales & Brian Robbins
Dwight Bales grew up at the church he now pastors, Bethel Baptist
in Aumsville, Oregon. He has been pastor-teacher at Bethel since
2007. Dwight met his wife, Lissa, while at Western Baptist College
(now Corban University). Dwight and Lissa were married in 1990,
and have three wonderful daughters. Brian Robbins has served as
the lead pastor of Faith Baptist Church of Lincoln City, Oregon for
the past seven years, and as the associate pastor at Faith for three
years before that. Brian and his wife, Carey, have three young
children.
Description:
Pastoral ministry is uniquely demanding. Many spiritual leaders do
a better job of taking care of the spiritual health of others than they
do of themselves. Over time, this approach to ministry can drain us
physically, emotionally, and spiritually. The sabbatical is one tool God
can use to refresh our spirits, provide valuable insight and perspective,
bless our families—and even re-energize our congregations! Brian
and Dwight will share from their own recent sabbatical experiences,
outlining the nuts and bolts of how to approach the sabbatical in such a
way that a pastor, his family, and the church all benefit.
GIVING CULTURE
Speaker: Glen Maiden
Rev. Glen Maiden earned his doctorate in the Theology of
Addiction, Masters in New Testament and Christian Education, and
BA in Bible and Biblical Languages. Glen serves as pastor, internet
teacher, financial consultant, visiting professor, and is a Certified Sex
Addiction Therapist Candidate through IITAP. See more at www.
glenmaiden.com.
Description:
Intimate Steps to Giving Culture presents a Biblical Theological
approach to fundraising. Four years ago, Dr. Maiden trained with
RSI, one of the top fundraisers in America. Since then, he has
blended the best of RSI, Dave Ramsey, and Fulcrum Estate Planning
into a financial vision operating in surplus.

ORDINATION AS PASTORAL DEVELOPMENT
Speakers: Mark Hoeffner, Executive Director of CB Northwest;
Dave Cetti, Director of Church Now; Royce Curtis, Director of
Convergence
You may know these three men from their roles at CB Northwest.
They also serve as elder/pastor in their local churches: Mark
Hoeffner, Grace Baptist – White Salmon; Dave Cetti, Montavilla
Baptist – Portland; Royce Curtis, Red Sea – Portland. This trio of
presenters will draw from their experience of over a combined 80
plus years of local church ministry.
Description:
The directors of CB Northwest have carefully revisited the need
and role of ordination within our local churches. As a result, they
have renewed their commitment to assist and resource local
churches in implementing an effective ordination process. This
revised ordination model and process is designed to function as
a guideline and a resource for both churches and men aspiring
to leadership. This workshop will explain the revised ordination
process and how it can be used by local churches to evaluate
a man’s readiness for ordination and also as a tool for ongoing
development of leaders.
JESUS’ JOLTING PRAYER REQUEST
Speaker: Dougg Custer
Dougg and his wife, LeAnn, have served with WorldVenture since
1979. They were appointed as church planters to Austria and, in 1986,
he became the Field Chairman of the Austrian Missionary Team,
consisting of 16 missionaries. The Austria team became a respected
model for other fields and mission organizations modeling unity, prayer
and member care. In recent years, Dougg has provided leadership as
WorldVenture’s International Ministries Director (IMD) for Europe and
the Middle East and since 2014, as the Vice President of Mobilization.
Description:
Being on mission is complex. Jesus tells how we can launch world
changers. He provides us with a simple, yet jolting request. If you are
ready to change your world, you will want to participate in this seminar.

EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR’S
REPORT
by Mark Hoeffner
Prepared for the CB Northwest Covenant Community of Churches
Whenever I have a problem with my computer, I call Eric, our IT guy, and
he always asks me the same question, “Did you turn it off and restart
it?” I have no idea why, but restarting fixes about 95% of my computer
problems.
providers. Our hope is that this comprehensive look and evaluation of
our region will help us make the very best God-led decisions so that we
might be able to live out mission with great success. We desire to see
every association within our region on mission where salvation, baptisms,
shepherd development, and church planting are taking place in great
numbers with sustainable maturity.
The ministry mapping we are now going through, once completed, will
be used as a template for the other regions throughout America. It is the
hope of CB Northwest that a movement for Christ and His church will
spread throughout our world. It is my prayer that 2016 will be the year
that the barriers to effective mission will come down and the gospel will
penetrate our culture as never before.
Over the last 16 years, CB Northwest has been working through all kinds
of challenges, and it is like God has us, year after year, turn everything
off and then restart. For me, our yearly Prayer Summits have become the
place of restart. This year was no exception.
I would say, excluding the Identity Document process, these past
couple of years have been the greatest shift in paradigm that we have
experienced in the last two decades. The sale of our old corporate
headquarters and the remodeling of our new church-based office
complex was a huge physical challenge. Internally, we moved our
CB Northwest Retirement Plan onto a new easy-to-access platform
administrated by GuideStone Financial. The restructure of our
Business and Operations Department, along with the rewriting of
ministry descriptions for the CB Northwest staff, brought the hiring
of four personnel to fill new positions. These endeavors are all a part
of God bringing CB Northwest into complete alignment with its
Identity Document. They not only bring great joy, but also give us the
opportunity to restart off of the newly completed platform.
In 2016, we will take advantage of an offer which has been afforded
us by CBAmerica. CBAmerica has provided each region in the United
States the opportunity to do a full assessment of their region. Dr. Paul
Borden’s consultation services have been secured by CBAmerica, and
he will be leading CB Northwest through a ministry mapping process.
This process will be a 360 degree look at the ministry of CB Northwest
over the last ten years. It is our prayer that this process will help us in
understanding the mind of Christ in how to build off the platform upon
which He has placed us. It will gain vital statistics by way of surveying
all of our churches and look at our systems through which we deliver
ministry. It will evaluate the roles and responsibilities of CB Northwest
staff, executive committee, trustees, committees, and our outside service

DIRECTOR OF
CHURCH NEXT
DIRECTOR OF
CONVERGENCE
by Jeremy Schumacher
By Royce Curtis
This year, I have been encouraged by reading some accounts of CB
church history. In one sense, we have not had very much change in our
70 years. Things like the centrality of Scripture, autonomous churches
and missionary zeal are things I’m glad will never change. In another
sense, we continue to contextualize to reach the next generation. We
are constantly changing who we are reaching, where we gather, and
how we express our relationships. Church Next seeks to build our
history by aiming at our future.
CB Northwest is committed to helping local churches surface and train
the next generation of pastors and elders. To do so, CB Northwest
provides two leadership development programs - Convergence and
Relational Elders Training.
In 2015, we saw the birth of four new churches. Headwaters (Pastor
Dakota Bartlum) was planted by the Alaska association of churches
to reach Anchorage, AK. Missio Dei (Pastor James Marchetti) was
planted by Radiant Church, also in Anchorage, AK. They are in the
process of changing their name to Radiant Anchorage. Soma-Federal
Way in Federal Way, WA was planted by Soma Communities-Tacoma.
Fellowship Bible Church (Pastor Jonathan Henderson) was planted by
Jefferson Baptist Church in Bend, OR. Carlton Community Church was
planted in 2006 by Lafayette Community Church, but never joined the
covenant community. Carlton Community Church (Pastor Jeff McInnis)
has chosen to make the relationship official this year.
CB Northwest churches have averaged four plants per year over the
past five years. Those are just the churches planted in the Northwest
region. Ninety-five percent of those plants are active and growing. I’m
convinced, now more than ever, that the model of “churches planting
churches” is a God-honoring and effective way of saturating the
Northwest with the gospel. Is the work complete? No. Do we need
more efforts towards planting churches? Yes. Praise the Lord for his
relentless pursuit of lost people.
Convergence is a three year pastoral training program designed to
educate and equip developing leaders while they serve in their local
church. The overarching goal is to help local churches raise up “skilled
shepherds.”
On January 29, 2016, six men graduated from Convergence and were
presented with their “swords” (literally).
• Jason Bigelow, Crowfoot Baptist Church, Lebanon, OR
• Matthew Earl, First Baptist Church Grass Valley, Grass Valley, OR
• Brian Hardesty, Sellwood Baptist Church, Sellwood, OR
• John Long, Shelton First Baptist Church, Shelton, WA
• Joel Rosenauer, Sequim Community Church, Sequim, WA
• Barry Starkey, New Creation Fellowship, Spokane, WA
We presently have three “cohorts”, totaling 23 men, involved in the
Convergence program.
New Developments in Convergence
• We are beginning our first regional cohort this year in Eastern
Oregon.
• In the past, new cohorts were formed every January. Beginning
this year, cohorts will form throughout the year when there are
enough guys to form one. So, if you or anyone you know are
interested in applying, they should apply as soon as they can in
order to get on the list for a cohort.
Our 13 Church Next events that are aimed at surfacing and training
next-generation leaders saw overall growth. These events reached 3,339
people, representing hundreds of churches. The addition of a
part-time administrative assistant, Shirley Radford, has increased our capacity
to serve churches. Moving from the theme of ‘Community’ in 2015, to
‘Mission’ in 2016, I am excited to see new ground taken for the gospel.

RELATIONAL ELDERS
TRAINING
DIRECTOR OF CHURCH
NOW
by Royce Cutis
by Dave Cetti
Relational Elders Training (RET) is a year-long elder training program
designed to disciple men towards maturity and to effectively serve
in the role of elder within their local church. Although it is primarily
designed to develop men toward the role of elder, it has become
an effective leadership development tool that local churches use to
raise up leaders at all levels of their church, including women.
Church Assessment
Last year, we started ten church assessments, five have been
completed. We are in process on five more, with three more in the
wings and about to begin.
Unlike training that primarily emphasizes just teaching, RET is
designed to maximize people’s involvement and requires that they
actively apply what they learn to their own life, their families, and
their ministries within the church. RET is designed so that those
who participate are able to use the same material as a tool to
disciple others in their church.
For more information, go to www.cbnw.org/training or contact
Royce Curtis at [email protected], 503.896.2308.
Placement
We currently have about 12 churches actively seeking pastors, five more
churches are preparing to search for a new pastor due to retirements.
Last year, I reported a couple of difficulties we were facing:
1. Finding interim pastors who are willing to move for the
duration of an interim assignment. More churches want
a 3-4 day a week interim. We used to have a group of
men who were available to travel and live in different
communities, but this is no longer possible.
2. Bi-vocational pastors are needed by a few churches;
hopefully the improving economy will make it easier to
locate potential jobs for men who are willing to serve
bi-vocationally.
Both of these difficulties remain.
We currently have 79 pastoral candidates in our placement system.
We are planning to re-launch our interim pastor training this year. Dennis
Olsen has taken the lead in developing the curriculum. Andy Baxter, Ralph
Young, Rich Hagenbaugh and Bert Downs have contributed to it as well.
Affiliation
Two churches have applied for membership in CB Northwest:
1. Heritage Bible Church of Cathlamet, WA
2. Emmanuel Charisma Church, an Ethiopian Church plant in Lynnwood, WA
Various
Our Prayer Summit was a great time of rest, worshiping God, and
praying together for our churches and ministries.
I have briefed several search committees this year, and have also
facilitated some prayer events – usually a day of prayer for a
church as a result of their assessment.

ETHNIC MINISTRIES
by Roy Libby
On March 1, 1991, I was installed as Director of Ethnic/Language
Ministries to assist five Spanish language congregations. They were
Hillsboro, Madras, Salem, Pleasant Home and Hood River. Since
that time, many more churches of CB Northwest have opened their
eyes and hearts to minister to an increasing multi-cultural/lingual
community. Today the list of Hispanic/Spanish speaking churches
has increased to more than 40.
Over the past ten years, four congregations have grown to such
a size that they have become fully credentialed, independent
churches. We celebrate the fact that they have grown large enough
to be self-sustaining.
Of those congregations that continue to be a part of the local
English language church, their situation and strength varies,
depending on leadership. Where there exists a pastor trained in a
Bible school/seminary, the ministry generally is more complex and
spiritually solvent. Almost every congregation is self-supporting.
We have identified eight key factors for the success of ethnic
congregations who are a part of an English speaking church:
1.
2.
3.
4.
5.
6.
7.
8.
36
Is the ethnic pastor in a working relationship with the Anglo pastor and his staff?
Is it publicly known that the ethnic congregation is a part of the church, and is it positively promoted in the community?
Is there a Biblically qualified leadership team that is recognized by the ethnic congregation?
Is the church identifying, training, and empowering multi-
ethnic, elder-level leadership?
Is the compensation for multi-ethnic pastors adequate? Is shared responsibility for the care and the upkeep of the facilities taking place?
Do both parties coordinate and cooperate in mutuality in programing and events?
Even though their general worship services remain separate, and in Spanish, do they consider themselves to be a part of the greater body and participate together on special occasions and for church projects.
If and when, in times of difficulty, will they approach the host mother church for assistance and, if so, how are they received?
There are two gaps that need to be bridged that will require
ingenuity and commitment:
1.
2.
The challenge of connecting our 30-plus stable congregations scattered throughout the northwest is always difficult. However, the use of today’s technology is helping to meet that challenge.
As we look to the future, we see the need to make investment in bilingual/cultural workshops to aid in the breaking through of barriers. As we bring Anglo and Hispanic leadership together to bridge cultural gaps, the hope of our multi-ethnic churches being on mission grows.
It would be important to encourage multi-layered leadership
training of elder leadership in the local church and also implement
an association-wide training of pastoral leadership for qualified
men who are called to pastoral ministry. Without such training, it is
increasingly difficult or impossible to continue meeting the needs of
a growing multi-cultural world in which we live.
An outstanding event of the past year was the ordination of Sergio
Aguirre, a boy we have watched grow up in the Iglesia Bautista
Conservadora de Madras. I was also honored to attend Sergio’s
marriage to Katie. I am now proud to see him on staff at CB
Northwest working with the development of multi-ethnic leadership.
Before closing my final annual report, I wish to express my gratitude
for the prayers that have followed my wife, Karla’s, bout with cancer.
She seems to be clear of cancer at this time. Also, I count the
relationships that have been developed over the past 25 years as
a rich gift. Thank you for the privilege of allowing me to introduce
you to so many other ministries, brethren and cultures.
In His service,
Roy Libby

DIRECTOR OF
BUSINESS AND
OPERATIONS
CBAMERICA AND
CBGLOBAL
by Dave Bertz
Over the past year, as the President of CBAmerica, it has been my
privilege to see the establishment of a robust national chaplaincy
ministry headed up by Chaplain Andy Meverden. It has also been
my privilege to be a part of a team that has helped to reestablish
the structure and put in place the leadership of our sister region CB
Northeast. Though the rebuilding of the NE region still has a long way
to go, it has been nothing less than the power of God’s grace to see
it being re-born. It was an answer to prayer to see the conclusion of
the unfortunate, but necessary, lawsuit brought against the Veteran’s
Association. It is with great joy that we have been able to fight for and
reestablish the rights of chaplains to exercise their religious convictions
in the context of fulfilling their responsibilities as chaplains.
Significant changes were made in the Business and Operations
Department. Early in 2015, we completed the sale of the CB
Northwest Ministry Center property on Halsey St NE and, after
extensive remodeling, moved into our new offices on SE 20th Ave. in
Portland in The Annex of Hinson Baptist Church. This change allows
us to focus greater resources in service ministries to our churches.
In August, after 18 years of service, Nancy Swanson retired as
the Director of Business and Personnel. Nancy’s service to our
association and have been invaluable. She “raised the bar” in
the areas of financial and personnel accountability and ran the
business department with efficiency and accuracy. She will be
missed around our office.
In light of Nancy’s retirement, we made an extensive restructuring of
the business office. I was formerly Director of Operations and now
I have been appointed Director of Business and Operations. Patty
Grimm, Bookkeeper, continues to serve in some new categories,
and Chris Hoeffner has been added as Business Manager. My former
operational responsibilities at Camp Tadmor have been distributed
to Chris and the new Tadmor Program Director, James Garner. These
changes will make business and operations at CB Northwest more
efficient and allow us to better serve our ministries and churches.
The end of 2015 saw the conclusion of an almost two-year process
of transitioning administration and investment of the Northwest
Conservative Baptist 403(b) Retirement Plan to GuideStone
Financial Resources. The ever increasing complexities and
regulations of administering a retirement plan made the change
to a new administrator a necessity. We are excited about the
additional services and options this partnership with GuideStone
brings to our churches and retirement participants. For more
information, visit the retirement page at our website: http://www.

CBAmerica has been honored to be a part of the hiring of the new
Regional Executive Director for the Rocky Mountain Association.
We welcome Stan Rieb as its new Regional Executive Director.
This year, CBAmerica sent two delegates, Jim Smith from Pacific
Church Network and Dave Cetti from CB Northwest to represent
CBAmerica at the CBGlobal meetings in Bangladesh.
The coming together of national CB church networks for the purpose
of global evangelization and global church planting is one of the joys
that we, as a CB family stretching around the world, get to be a part
of. I trust that every CB church will do its part, that every association
within every region will do its part, and that every network of churches
within the nations will do their part; so that the great commission can
be carried to every tribe, every tongue, and every nation. On behalf
of the covenant community of nations, the covenant community of
regions, the covenant community of associations, and the covenant
community of churches, thank you for serving Christ and His church.
Praying Always, Never Give Up!
