St Peter’s Pew Sheet
Prayer Corner
Before you say this prayer, tell yourself “ I am just the person God needs”. Say it as many times as you need to until
you believe it.
Faithfull God, open my eyes to see the reach of your power, ignite my heart to feel the depth of your love, overwhelm
my mind with the knowledge of whom you are and how I fit
into your plans and give me the courage to trust in your
faithfulness.
Amen

Wyedale Hall Event—The Matthew Passion—A Journey Through Matthew’s
Account of the Passion of Jesus. Thursday 9th March 9.45am to 4.30pm (led
by Bishop Graham Cray)
Prepare for Holy Week with a close reading of Matthew’s account of the passion of
Jesus. These chapters record the transition from Jesus with his disciples, to Jesus facing his enemies alone. The twin themes of the cross and the challenge of discipleship
are threaded through the text. The meaning of the cross is revealed in narrative form
rather than through a doctrinal statement. As we read the account of the Passion in
Holy Week, Matthew invites us to accompany Jesus on his journey to the cross, not
flinching back to escape its reality, as the disciples did, but facing into it, so that we
can grasp it necessity. This day would particularly benefit anyone, clergy or lay, of any
denomination, who would like to dig a little deeper into a Gospel account of Christ’s
Passion, as a Lent discipline or a preparation for Easter.
It’s great to see you at St Peter’s today whether
you’re new or a regular attender. Why not stay for
refreshments after the service? We have a welcome
leaflet which tells you more about our church.

Notes from Bunmi
God who has called you……….if faithful.
I wonder if like me you have those moments in your Christian journey
when you measure yourself against the scale of God’s word of who or
what a good Christian should be and find yourself very wanting. You
crumble in defeat and a sense of worthlessness “Why did God pick me?
Of all the people he could have called why me? I am so rubbish, so
completely NOT what a good Christian should be”. I do that at least
every couple of months. And while I promise you, my sense of remorse
and guilt is genuine, there is lurking in the back of my mind, a sliver of
hope that God is going to kindly pick me up off my knees, and say “its
ok, you are not that bad, I know you are trying your best”. But of course
that never happens. What does happen is that as I slowly accept that I
won’t be perfect enough for God, there is a gradual realisation that
faithless, flaky and inconstant as I am, He still called me! Moi! Perhaps
because he sees some potential in me. I hope so. But this I suddenly
realise. He is not counting on my faithfulness. Instead he is assured of
his. He knows HE has the power to make what HE wants to be. He knows
HE is unequivocal in his resolve to stand and work with me while I
emerge a butterfly from the chrysalis. Think about it, HE called us, we
didn’t call him. HE picked us. Sounds to me like someone who has a plan.
And if we let him, if we are willing and yielding. HE will see you make
those plans come to pass no matter how much we veer off course
sometimes. He is determined to make butterflies our of our caterpillars.
Now that is what I call faithful!

St Peter’s Church Welcome Team
The Welcome Team is now in being!
Each week someone from that team will
be “ on duty”. It is of course everyone's
responsibility to make newcomers feel
welcome but the team is a central
contact point. We will be explaining
more as part of a service in January. As
well as looking after new people we are
conscious that our existing family needs
caring for! In February the team will be
talking to everyone and asking them for
their contact details…… and a photo!
We’ll give you a date so you can look
your best!
