Language Arts B Course Outline for Semester 1, Quarter 1
Mrs. Jagielski * STAR 2014
Each year, I have several students and Learning Coaches that ask for a guide to
help you follow the OLS and also Class Connects. Please use this LA B Course Outline as a
resource if you feel it will help you and it is what you need to organize and manage your
school day. It is my goal to continue the flexibility schooling from home offers! At times,
we will complete units out of order from the OLS both as we work together and what I ask
you to complete independently. I will let you know what and when to mark lessons complete.
I have rearranged some units to make the course more manageable for you using our school
calendar and assessment schedules. Please do not worry! I promise to get you from point A
to Point Z by the end of the year.
Independently follow the OLS Daily Plan for GUM and Vocabulary. There will be NO
synchronous instruction on these units. You may certainly complete more than what
the outline lists. Please ask for help as needed and/ or attend STAR Support.

Please attend ALL Class Connect sessions M-TH 1 0: 00am. You will find this link on your
Daily Plan to remind you to log into class. Literature is taught synchronously. You will
not follow your OLS Daily Plan for this portion of the course. It is important that you
view the recorded session and complete any missed OLS work BEFORE attending class
after an absence. Attendance will be taken. To access recordings, you need to click
on the original Class Connect link. It takes about
30min. to appear after class is finished. Please K- mail me if you are unable to attend
and also when you have viewed the recorded session.
During Quarter 1, we will cover Units2, 3 and 5 together and Unit 17 will be completed
independently. You should be reading a choice novel and completing at least one lesson each
day until the novel and OLS work is finished if you have not yet started. We will also be
reading one of the two required novels together (Unit 4). As of right now, this will most
likely be The Hobbit for Semester 1. More information is to follow. Novel class will be in
addition to M-TH 10am class times and Class Connect attendance will be mandatory for the
duration of the novel on Monday at 12:00pm for only for those students who chose
that novel selection over the other choice (Treasure Island).
When we are not holding Book Club, we will have a Mystery Reader  come share a
favorite picture book or chapter from a novel with us aloud and/ or on the webcam. You
won’t want to miss these optional FUN Class Connect sessions! It is always fun to guess
WHO the Mystery Reader will be! You never know if it will be someone that YOU know!
***There will also be a Critical Skills Assignment (Unit 6) to be announced at a later date.
This is found in Literature; however, it is a written assignment.
