Below is a sample style-analysis essay prompt that might appear on the AP English Language &
Composition examination.
I cannot stress enough the importance of PREPARING to write before you write your essay, especially
but not exclusively in a timed writing situation.
Take 10-12 minutes to respond to the prompt in your journal as though you were going to write the
essay. You may use any annotations or notes you have from your reading of King’s “Letter from
Birmingham Jail.”
I expect to see a THESIS and a detailed OUTLINE of the ideas you plan to develop in each body ¶.
