EMT CLINICAL INFORMATION
WHERE TO GO
You will be able to choose time slots and hospital locations that are reasonable for you. Sign-up
sheets will be provided prior to the start of clinical. We will make every effort to assign you to
the hospital of your choice, but a second choice may be necessary in order to accommodate
everyone. Please remember, we have several course sponsors in this region and there is a
limited number of hospitals. When you arrive for your assigned shift, report to the charge nurse
or the head nurse in the Emergency Department.
WHAT TO DO
You need to complete the tasks outlined in your clinical paperwork. There may be times you
are asked to assist hospital staff with some tasks not listed in the clinical manual such as
assisting in making up stretchers, bandaging, etc.
Please make every effort to be
accommodating. If you are uncomfortable about a request, discuss this with the clinical adjunct
assigned to you. Do not allow yourself to become involved in any conflict with staff. If
necessary contact your course instructor. A minimum of two (2) PCRs should be completed per
shift – preferably one medical and one trauma.
WHAT TO WEAR
Slacks, skirts or dresses of reasonable length, button down blouses or shirts, pullover sweaters,
dress shoes or loafers are the preferred attire. An inexpensive WHITE lab coat must be worn
and your student ID must be visible. A stethoscope, pad and pen are recommended.
DO NOT WEAR T-shirts of any type, jeans, sneakers, work boots, dangling jewelry or scrubs.
ABSENCE
You are expected to show up at the scheduled time on your scheduled day. If an emergency
arises and you cannot keep your commitment, contact REMO and the hospital to let them know
you will be absent. The only acceptable excuse for absence is illness, death in the family, or
extremely inclement weather. Any time missed MUST be made up. No more than two (2)
absences will be allowed. More than two (2) missed clinical shifts will be reviewed in
conjunction with your class attendance and may preclude you from taking the NYS certifying
examinations.
Any student violating the policies and/or procedures described here and/or in your copy of the
REMO Policies & Procedures will be sent home by hospital staff and/or adjunct and will need to
re-schedule clinical time.
