During the month of April and May I focus many of my guidance lessons on the topic of careers. Our 4th Annual Hillrise Career Day is scheduled for Friday, April 17th in the afternoon. What I am looking for are parent volunteers to give presentations to all grades, K-5. Usually, my speakers have a 15-minute presentation and then the students ask questions. Many speakers share their presentation with several grade levels. I can, however, be very flexible with your schedule. If you volunteer I will send home a packet with more details. My speakers in the past have always enjoyed themselves and the students really LOVE what you have to say. ALL careers are welcomed. So, please let me know if you are interested. Thank you, Mrs. Hall, School Counselor 402-289-2602, [email protected] Summer Activity Camps Each summer Elkhorn coaches and sponsors offer a variety of sports/activity camps for students of all ages. What a great group of kids. You are Thanks to the Hillrise Media Specialist Mrs. Schnase, the students at Hillrise celebrated Read Across America Day with fun activities, prizes and of course, books! Since Read Across America Day, a special project by the National Education Association that’s in its 18th year, coincides with Dr. Seuss’s birthday, all the activities were based on Dr. Seuss books. Students K-5 came to the gymnasium to rotate through five fun stations such as Fox In Socks Relay, the Cat in the Hat Fish Bowl Toss and One Fish Two Fish Pond. The Hillrise PTO was happy to provide funding for the prizes, books and supplies, as well as help provide volunteers for the event. TAKE FIVE! 5 Everyone has an opinion. We want to hear yours! If you have other fundraising ideas, or would like to share your opinions on fundraising, please feel free to comment on our Facebook page, or contact a PTO Board member. Did you know? The events and activities mentioned on this page are thanks to the creativity and dedication of Hillrise teachers and staff; the commitment of the PTO; and, the generosity of Hillrise parents. Ms. Madden celebrates every Hillrise student’s birthday by letting them pick a new book on their special day. (Students with summer birthdays make their selections on their “half” birthday.) Thanks to PTO funding, more than 500 books were purchased and made available for students to select. It’s a great way to celebrate and an even better way to get more books into the hands of more students.
