My name is Susy Raga, I am a native of Valencia (Spain) . I came to Louisiana four years ago with a special education program called “Profesores Visitantes” that Spanish Embassy has with the Education Louisiana Department. I graduated in Valencia University in 1999. I have a Master Degree in Hispanic and Italian Philology, and a Master Degree in Social Anthropology. Before coming to Louisiana I taught Spanish in a High School for ten years. My primary objectives are to develop a well-rounded, self disciplined and resourceful student and to maintain his/her enthusiasm in learning a foreign language as well as mastering it. I intend to communicate with you on a regular basis. Please check Power Teacher frequently to find class information and/ or personal messages about the progress of your child. I am always open to suggestions to improve the classroom environment and maintain the students’ motivation in learning. Consequently, do not hesitate to contact me . Your input, support, and assistance are critical. Please, let‘s work together to make a really exceptional and successful year for your child. ATTENDANCE AND MAKE –UP WORK Every day is important. Missed Graded Assignments and Assessments due to sick days may be accepted for credit as long as you discuss with the teacher when you return to school. It is students responsibility to schedule an appointment ( office hours) to make-up an assignment or assessments. HOMEWORK Homework is a necessary part of the learning process. I except your best work, presented neat ( notebook or worksheets) and complete . If the students does not understand the homework, he or she should leaved a space to fill-in the work in the class in order to receive a full credit. Homework assignments will be checked daily. If the student has not the homework it will be posted in Power School as Missing and parents/guardians have to sign in the notebook/worksheet. A daily homework assignment may not be turned late. There is not homework every night. If student is absent, is their responsibility for all of the material covered in class. It is students responsibility to Check e- mail and Google Calendar. Check with the teacher before school, check the class notebook, and/or talk to a classmate (NOT during a lesson) to make sure you have everything. You should also come to office hours with any questions about the material. NOTEBOOK As we are not following a specific textbook notebook (or binder in 8th grade) is an important tool for students learning process and it should be taken very seriously. Notebook will be checked twice per quarter ( a grading rubric is provided to know my requirements) . In class there is always a SAMPLE NOTEBOOK in case students want to check some day they missed or to complete notes. GRADING SCALE Homework 10 % Classwork Quizzes Tests 10% 20% 15% Performance-Graded Assessment Quarterly Exam 20% 25% ( projects, notebook,oral activities) TEST/QUIZ CORRECTIONS If you are received one D or F, you can retake your quiz or test ( not exams) You will not be allowed to complete test corrections if you have any missing homework or class work assignments on the material tested. 1. Come to office hours to complete an Analysis Form 2. Use the Analysis Form to identify the material you have not yet mastered. Identify resources to help you master that information 3. Go to the LRC to get extra help. Have your tutor sign your Test or Quiz Correction Plan 4. Come to office hours to retake the test/quiz . You must have your completed Analysis Form t and a Test Corrections Plan (signed by both a parent and an LRC tutor) to do test corrections. You will be asked to answer AND explain the questions that you missed during the initial assessment CLASS AND BEHAVIOUR EXPECTATIONS Class expectations: 1. Come to class everyday prepared to learn (That means on time, in dress code, with your homework and all necessary supplies) 2. At all times, have your work neat, complete, and accurate. 3. Never hesitate to ask for help in class. Never leave the classroom with an unanswered question. 4. As soon as you get in the classroom, be seated and quietly take out your material , open notebook, copy the daily objective and the date and wait in silence. Behavior expectations: Every student is expected to exhibit the Lusher values of kindness, respect, responsibility, and hard work. Any distractions to the learning environment or lack of respect for others will not be tolerated.
