FINDING ACCURATE HEALTH INFORMATION ONLINE
JUST GOT A LOT EASIER
womenshealthmatters.ca at Women’s College Hospital launches new web toolkit
to help navigate the plethora of health information on Internet
TORONTO – More and more consumers and health-care practitioners are turning to the
Internet as a source of health information, but it can be difficult to consistently find
reliable and relevant information.
That is why the womenshealthmatters.ca team at Women’s College Hospital created the
new online resource: Women Wading Through the Web:
A Health Toolkit.
Designed in an easy-to-read PDF format, women can access and use it online, or
download and print it out as a booklet. This free resource can help you to:
Learn more about search engines and other search tools and strategies
Judge the quality of a website
Improve skills in finding and assessing reliable health information
Understand medical research
Analyze health information from the media
Communicate more effectively with health professionals
“No one website should be considered to be the only reliable or credible source of
information,” said Jean Greenberg, lead author of the toolkit and database coordinator,
womenshealthmatters.ca. “The most important thing to look for is who is responsible for
the site and what their credentials are.”
To get your copy of Women Wading Through the Web: A Health Toolkit, go to:

Hear womenshealthmatters.ca staff talk about the toolkit at the upcoming Women’s
Health Matters Forum and Expo in Toronto on Saturday, January 19th, 2008. Visit the
Forum website for more details: www.womenshealthmatters.ca/forum.
The toolkit was produced in partnership with the Women’s College Research Institute
and the Ontario Women’s Health Network. It was funded by a contribution from the
Canadian Council on Learning.
