OREGON TRAVEL BAROMETER
Travel Oregon has partnered with Dean Runyan Associates to provide the Travel Industry with
a monthly "Oregon Travel Barometer." The Barometer is a quick-read dashboard of key travel
indicators designed to show changes in the metrics that affect Oregon's tourism industry.
Where applicable there is a deeper dive available for each indicator, so you can review the data
in greater detail.
December 2013 Report Highlights
Following are a few observations from the December 2013 Oregon Travel Barometer report:

Oregon’s statewide lodging trends continue to show positive growth vs. December
2012 (Lodging Demand: +6.9%; Lodging Revenue: +12.0%).
o Year-over-year growth in Oregon’s lodging demand and revenue was higher
than that of the national and regional averages.
o Willamette Valley experienced the highest growth in lodging demand and
revenue vs. December 2012.

Oregon’s average gasoline prices reached a 22-month low, dropping to $3.30/gallon (1.5% vs December 2012).
o NOTE: Data goes back to February 2012

Employment in Oregon’s Accommodation & Food Services sector was up +4.4% Year to
Date.

Domestic air visits to Oregon grew in Q3 2013 (+2.6% vs. Q3 2012).

The Oregon Index of Leading Economic Indicators for December 2013 was at 98.46,
which represents a 2.8% increase from December 2012.

U.S. Travel Association. TSI is a quarterly metric of
consumer attitudes toward leisure travel based on
available time and finances, interest, affordability,
safety of travel and quality of service. The TSI is
released in February (Q1), April (Q2), July (Q3) and
October (Q4). March 2007 = 100.
10. Oregon Office of Economic Analysis. The OILI applies
the Conference Board’s methodology for the U.S.
National Leading Index to Oregon-specific
components. Jan 2005 =100. The OILI value is
subject to change due to the standard deviation
