YADDO’S MISSION is to further the creative process by
providing an opportunity for artists to work without interruption
in a supportive environment. Chosen on a competitive basis by
panels of widely recognized artists, they include emerging and
well-known figures, reflecting a broad range of contemporary
styles and creative perspectives. They are welcomed to Yaddo
without regard for their financial circumstances.

REPORT
FROM
THE CHAIR
“I love Yaddo … with all of my heart. My stay last winter [was] …
one of the most productive months of my life. For so many of my
friends in the arts, time at Yaddo is like traveling at creative light
speed versus the usual urban slog. It is indispensable and longed for
constantly. To be honest, I’m dreaming of it right now.”

A capacity crowd of nearly 200 at the 2010 Summer Benefit enjoyed perfect
weather, great food, and a program featuring award-winning author Rick
Moody, who entertained with a reading of a wonderful new short story written
entirely in 140-character “Tweets”. The event, which raised approximately
$116,000, also offered a silent auction. Thanks to the generosity of the
Capital Region community and the hard work of the members of the
volunteer Committees, Yaddo was able to devote more than 90 percent of
the proceeds from the benefit directly to the artist residency program.

YADDO 2010
CONTRIBUTORS
In early fall, several of the Directors of The Corporation of Yaddo issued a
PUBLIC FUNDING
challenge to encourage individual donors, including many artists who are
National Endowment for the Arts
former residents, to renew and increase their annual contribution. As a
result, Yaddo exceeded its financial goals and ended 2010 well positioned
to build on this success in the new year. Yaddo is pleased to recognize
all of the individuals, foundations, corporations, and government agencies
New York State Council on the Arts
that helped to make this achievement possible. We wish to acknowledge
the Board of Directors, and in particular those who participated in the
challenge, and the Members for their continued generosity and leadership.
Gratitude is also extended to our friends and neighbors in the Saratoga
Springs-Albany community, which remains an important source of support

Yaddo works with donors and their representatives to structure individual planned gifts that can offer substantial tax and estate benefits, particularly if funded
through gifts of appreciated stock or real estate. There is no minimum bequest required and restricted gifts can memorialize relatives or friends, or perpetuate
the names of the donors by endowing artists’ residencies and restoration of the historic estate. Finally, many former guests have designated works of art as a
gift, with specific arrangements made for their care and eventual disposition. Additional information can be found online at www.yaddo.org/yaddo/trasksociety.

“In order to insure for
Yaddo a larger influence
and…in the hope that
it may continue as a
practical force in the
world for all time, we
desire to found here
a permanent Home
to which shall come
from time to time…
authors, painters,
sculptors, musicians,
and other artists both
men and women, few
in number but chosen
for creative gifts and
besides and not less
for the power and the
will and the purpose
to make these gifts
useful to the world…It
is such as these whom
we would have enjoy
the hospitality of Yaddo,
their sole qualification
being that they have
done, are doing, or give
promise of doing good
and earnest work.”
