HISTORY OF BERLITZ
When Berlitz Method® was introduced
in 1878, it changed the way language was
taught. Based on providing an immersive
experience with native teachers and
focusing on oral communication, the Berlitz
Method® is capable of accelerating learning
and building the key foundation for effective
communication – learners’ self-confidence.
Berlitz was also the first to offer multiple
platform delivery (face-to-face, virtual, online,
mobile, study abroad) of its programs, with
options to learn at work, at home or on the
road. This is a huge benefit to people leading
busy work and personal lives.
Berlitz offers trainings in all living
languages, as well as communication,
intercultural and business solutions. Our
programs are custom-designed to fit the
specific needs of our clients, should they be
large or small corporations, individuals, young
students or children.
Berlitz started franchising in 1889.
Maximilian D. Berlitz
founded the company in
1878. Since then, Berlitz
has become the world’s
premier provider of
language training and
intercultural services, with
a footprint in more than
70 countries. 4
Berlitz can deliver training wherever clients wish – at the Learning
Center, in their offices, on the phone, or live via the internet.

THE BERLITZ EXPERIENCE
EXPLAINED
THE BERLITZ METHOD ®
A conversational approach that emphasizes listening
and speaking over memorization forms the heart of
all Berlitz instruction. This world-famous method,
pioneered by Maximilian D. Berlitz, is the most
natural and effective way to learn a new language.
BERLITZ INSTRUCTORS
Native-fluent instructors all go through the Berlitz
Instructor Training (BIT) program that ensures
consistent delivery and quality worldwide.
BERLITZ MATERIALS
Berlitz materials are engaging and have been
developed using customer feedback and field
research to maximize learning.
BERLITZ ENVIRONMENT
In private one-on-one lessons or in small groups, the Berlitz training experience
maximizes student speaking time – building confidence in speaking the language.
Berlitz can deliver training wherever clients wish– at the Learning Center, in their
offices, or live via the Internet.
TESTING TOOLS
To ensure a language program is appropriate for each client, every program begins with
language proficiency-level testing. Once students have completed their program level,
they may take advantage of achievement tests to see how well they have mastered the
material before moving on to the next level. For added convenience, many of these tests
are available online.
