math facts finally conquered, and written reflections
of where students have been and where they are
going taking a more articulate shape. While all this
physical and academic progress is happening, we also
look more deeply for a changing, growing heart, a
heart open to a relationship with Jesus.

NO SCHOOL—Spring Break
IN’s & OUT’s
We have completed three quarters of another school
year and we’re heading into the last lap of the race. It
is exciting to work with students because growth and
progress are evident, if not day by day, at least when
you look at the big picture of a whole year. Your
children are growing! Pants are getting shorter, shoes
are getting tighter, and snacks are getting bigger!
Your child is growing physically. Then there’s the
next level of books successfully read, those annoying
In these past weeks Mrs. Holwerda has been working
with a small group of students who have read and
discussed a book entitled On My Honor by Marion
Dane Bauer. The story is about two friends, one of
which takes a big risk swimming in a river and
drowns. This was a very difficult story to read, but
one which prompted the readers to reflect about the
meaning of life and where they put their hope and
trust. Each student was able to articulate his or her
own love for Jesus and express the certainty that He
holds them in His hands. It is our hope and intention
that all students at RCS have opportunities to be
asked and challenged on a grade-appropriate level
about their love and acceptance of Jesus as their
Savior.
God has created us and desires us to grow as Jesus
did in wisdom (mind), stature (physically), and in
favor with God (spiritually) and man (socially /
emotionally)—Luke 2:52. As we head into this last
quarter of the school year , continue to encourage
your child(ren) to work hard and do their best as they
finish this last lap and press on to this year’s finish
line.

ELEMENTARY EVENTS
Reading Day – The elementary students celebrated
reading all day last Friday, March 7. Kids had time to
read some of their favorite books but also participate
in reading activities with partners and groups as well.
The Power of The One
We had much fun finding the joy in words and story!!

and Thursday from 4:00-8:00 PM. You need to sign
up for a time slot.
Parent / Teacher Conferences – Confirmation
notes went home earlier this week indicating the time
a conference was scheduled for you based on
requests. If you have not received the confirmation,
please call Sharon Jim, our secretary, to confirm the
time. A reminder: K- 3rd grade students have 15
minute individual conferences while grades 4 and 5
have a one hour block of time where you can come
and meet with your child’s homeroom teacher and if
you desire the other 4/5 teachers as well.
Warsaw Ghetto Simulation – The Middle School
began its WWII unit yesterday. The students
experienced a simulation of what it was like, to a very
small degree, to be in the Warsaw Ghettos. Students
were divided up into families and given different
identities. There was a lot of symbolism involved of
what the Jewish families experienced. Time was given
to debrief and share insights and feelings that they
had throughout the morning. This was a powerful
experience for the students and hopefully they
understand a little more about the realities of ghettoes
and the treatment of Jews. Throughout the rest of
the month, each class will be learning about different
aspects of WWII.
Report Cards - Report cards will be sent home with
students on Monday, March 17. Please look for your
child’s report card on that day. Please take time to go
over the report card with your child and praise them
for progress made, as well as possibly making one
goal for something that may need improvement.
Elementary SAC week – Our elementary school is
going to do their version of Student Alternative
Curriculum (SAC) week this year from March 25 –
28. Teachers will be teaching some alternative
curriculum for a portion of the day which will be fun
but also educating. Some of the options students will
get are cooking, reading games, odyssey of the mind,
pond exploration, etc. We are looking forward to a
great week!!

need to hear these words of hope and promise. This
concert and the choir’s new CD will be dedicated to
the families of four choir students who have passed
away in the past 2 decades: Renzo Fowler, Joshua
Landavazo, Maria Hoelscher, and Meghan Ortiz.
A big thank you to the many choir parents and others
in the community who have helped feed and house
the visiting choirs in the past weeks from Romania,

High School touring choir as they travel to Montana
and Washington.
