NEWS RELEASE Press contact: Joseph Duong, (212) 581-5933 [email protected] FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: September 3, 2015 THE NEW YORK YOUTH SYMPHONY TO PARTICIPATE IN SUMMER PERFORMANCES New York, NY – The New York Youth Symphony (NYYS) embarks on a series of summer performances in its continuing effort to engage in the community, through diverse partnerships, outreach concerts, benefit performances, and family involvement. Widely acknowledged as one of the leading youth programs of its kind in the nation, NYYS is recognized for its innovative, tuition-free educational programs for talented young musicians. Fresh from its immensely successful first-ever international tour in Argentina in July, the NYYS is broadening its reach even further with a series of performances Trinidad. In a collaboration with Connectt youth orchestra the NYYS will join with musicians from Trinbagonian, the National Youth Orchestra of France, the National Youth Orchestra from Great Britain, the Youth Orchestra of the Americas, and the Freiburger Musikhochschule, Germany. Under the direction of conductor Kwamé Ryan, this international group of musicians will perform repertoire including the Vivaldi Four Seasons, Piazzolla Four Seasons, and a newly commissioned work from an Indian composer. All performances are free and open to the public. The musicians will also perform a series of private shows for local children and hospices and as well as participate in a number of cultural exchanges. Musicians representing NYYS are alums from the orchestra and chamber music programs and include: Joseph Morag and Katherine Liu (violins), Sophia Sun (viola), Mattias van Der Swaagh and Emma Schmiedecke (cellos) and Olivia Kapell (bass). Inspired by the historical pageantry movement of the early 1900s, Obie Award-winning director Lear Debessonet and lyricist/composer Todd Almond, the team behind the acclaimed Public Works' productions of The Tempest and The Winter’s Tale, join forces again for The Odyssey.
