Climate: the kind of weather an area has over a long period of time.
Environment: surroundings like trees, roads, buildings, mountains, and rivers.
Land: the part of the Earth’s surface that is not water.

Continent: a large body of land on the Earth.
Equator: an imaginary line that goes from east to west around the middle of the Earth.

SOL 2.6 Map Skills:
People who make maps include a map title, map legend, and compass rose.
A map is a flat drawing that shows what places look like from above and where they are located.
A map legend included symbols that represent objects and places. (map key)
Compass rose: a symbol that shows direction on maps and globes.
Map legend: a list of shapes and symbols used on a map and an explanation of what each stands
for.
Map title: the name or kind of map.
SOL 2.10 Good Citizenship
A good citizen has a varied of responsibilities:
Respecting and protecting the rights and property of others
Taking part in the voting process when making classroom decisions.
Tell how actions can improve the school and community (ex: picking up trash)
Having self discipline and self reliance (doing things independently with confidence)
Practicing honesty and trustworthiness

SOL 2.12 Government
Voters in Virginia’s cities and counties elect officials to make decisions for them in the state and
local government.
People living in VA have different ethnic origins, customs, and traditions and participate in the
communities by practicing the responsibilities of being a good citizen.
All people even though they are different, are united as Americans by common goals and
traditions.
