Three-digit Numbers in Unit, Numeral, Expanded, and Word Forms Words to know • Unit Form • Word Form • Number Bond Place Value Charts Hundreds Number Form Expanded Form Standard Form Tens Ones Count bundles on Place Value Charts Hundreds • • • Fall Tens Ones The number represented on the place value chart is 242. Count Bundles and Write the Numbers on the Chart. Things to remember!!! Count 10 ones Hundreds 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 Count 10 tens 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 70, 80, 90, 100 Count 10 hundreds 100, 200, 300, 400, 500, 600, 700, 800, 900, 1,000 Standard Form and Number Form are the same thing. 1 Tens 1 Ones The number represented by the bundles is 111. Represent a Three-Digit Number with Number Bonds OBJECTIVE OF TOPIC C 1 2 3 4 Count up to 1,000 on the place value chart. Write base ten three-digit numbers in unit form; show the value of each digit. Write base ten numbers in expanded form Write, read, and relate base ten numbers in all forms 1 6 hundreds 5 tens 2 ones Match Unit Form with Number Form Students should understand that a number can be represented in different ways. On the left they are written in unit form and on the right they are written in number form. The student should be able to identify which unit form matches the number form. Numbers in Word Form Again they learn that a number can be represented in different ways. On the left they are written in word form and on the right they are written in number form. The student should be able to identify which word form matches the number form. Writing a Number in Expanded Form Relate base ten numbers in all forms. 589 Write 232 in expanded form. 200 + 30 + 2 =252 Expanded form is a way to represent a number that shows the sum of values for each digit of the number. Expanded form can also be used to break a number down even smaller. 100 + 100 + 10 +10 + 10 +1 + 1 = 232 200 is expanded into 100 + 100 30 is expanded into 10 + 10 + 10 2 is expanded into 1 + 1 Place Value Chart Hundreds Both problems are written in expanded form. Bundles: Tens 5 Unit Form: Writing an Expanded Form in Number Form Write 800 + 60 + 9 in Number Form 800 + 60 + 9 = 869 Write 100 + 100 + 100 + 10 + 10 + 1 + 1 in Number Form. 322 8 Ones 5 hundreds 8 tens 9 ones Expanded Form: 500 + 80 + 9 Word Form: Five hundred eighty-nine 9
