At times the first aid room was not sufficient to house the number of casualties, so FOH placed a number of fainters on mats outside on West Piazza. Thanks to the Witches who helped retrieve a patron! At the end of the interval a steward was approached by a patron who complained that a gentleman sitting near her in Upper East had been aggressive and sexually inappropriate towards her. FOH spoke with the gentleman in question– he did not appear to be drunk and accepted that he had been ruder than he meant to be when he got into a confrontation with another patron. He explained that he was feeling distressed by the amount of blood during the first half and had pushed past another patron in haste to exit at the interval. FOH and a first aider attended to her, checking she did not slip into unconsciousness and once the fireman, who was on another call to MG could join us to help lift her down the stairs to the waiting wheelchair in the yard... ambulance called. 'A lady had bought a ticket with her family in the upper gallery but came down because she found it was too high to remain up there. She caused a lot of curious looks so FOH stood in front of her as a human screen; IJ chairs blocking access; group of c. 60 students entered late noisily; stewards on ‘pod watch’ [for actors being poked/molested by audience] actor in SR pod close to the stage had been ‘a particular sufferer’- no problems tonight; more disruptive students (Swiss), lots of photographers, one in the very front was made to stop and delete all photos, ‘FOH spoke with her at the end of the show, asking if she realised how distracting this was for the actors, she was spotted taking a flash as Lady M stood above her on stage’ 13 Jun Mat Warm 1325 869 456 1 4 ‘4 fainters just before the interval. He did so before the interval and remained till the end of the show and seemed to be fine. Young boy waiting for father to bring ticket escorted in; German student with back pain helped and then given house seat; elderly gentleman having difficulty standing given house seat; young girl on crutches was spotted having difficulty standing and given a house seat tat the interval; disruptive school children had disturbed actors and surrounding audience;’ 15 Jun Mat Warm and Windy 1331 869 462 7 required first aid 1 1 ambulance to St Thomas ‘285 school children and a number of colleges; schools were particularly excitable so FOH stayed inside theatre to keep them as calm as possible; required 3 Duty Managers at times; expecting 22 special needs children but ten turned up; disabled loo by shop not working which was a problem; arrived late but during scene with porter and the sound of laughter reduced any possible disturbance, student standing under canopy was injured in excitement and jostling with porter throwing bucket of water, accidentally pushed and fell head first into the metal pod stage left. The girl knocked her head hard on the pod and had a large bump, given an icepack but her condition deteriorated and she was taken to hospital.’ 16 Jun Mat Hot sun and breezy 13.3 1339 867 472 2 2 2 12 ‘About 12 in all had to come out to recover from feeling the effects of heat or strong sunlight; 2 fainters required rescuing from under the canopy, both recovered and returned to the theatre.’ 17 Jun Eve Cool and Breezy 1 collapsed 10 felt unwell 19.25 ‘Seven minutes into the performance a a lady exited the theatre and made her way to the foyer. She collapsed just inside the glass doors and was quickly attended to by the Fireman. After being placed on the ground with her legs raised for five minutes she recovered enough to be taken o the First Aid room where her condition quickly improved. She stated that she felt much better and left the theatre soon afterwards. Ten other patrons felt unwell however none of them were serious. Shortly afterwards, another lady came out of Door 3 feeling unwell. FoH attended- refused to go to FIrst Aid Room, then began to vomit, left after some rest. In total there were ten fainters, one of whom also vomited and a cardiac patient requiring first aid. Porter threw water over Chinese lady and her daughter, and soaked her bag and camera. Request that less water be thrown over groundlings.’ 19 Jun Eve Cool and Breezy 19.15 1329 869 460 0 1 ‘One girl came out ten minutes into the beginning of the show, as she felt sick. After a short spell in the first aid room she felt well enough to go back in. However a quarter of an hour later she came back out again, as she said the show was too gory and bloody for her, so she left and went home. Scare about fire across the river. Stage management felt groundlings were thin, although officially old out so authorised box office to sell more tickets. Doors being creaky and easily blown open. Troublesome students swapping ‘head holes’ and then sitting down underneath canopy- stewards crawled under and told them off.’ 20 Jun Eve Cool and Dry 18.05 1328 869 459 1 1 6 ‘There were six people who came out feeling unwell but none required first aid. One girl vomited but soon felt well enough to go back into the show. Noisy Italian students. Most left after interval, but those that stayed ‘insisted on incessantly muttering during Act Two’ and were given a final warning. Swan catering staff being noisy.’ 20 Jun Mat Cool 1322 869 453 3 2 ‘One boy fainted after 3 minutes, overcome by the content of the play. He remained in the first aid room for the majority for the first half. Another 5 people fainted and were treated in the first aid room. Two people were sick and a massive thank you to Hotel Peter and his team for their quick and efficient responses. Girls told off for texting under the canopy. [And a little anecdote about a chatty woman who didn’t know who had written Macbeth and her ‘long-suffering’ husband].’ 22 Jun Eve Warm 19.1 1339 869 470 1 20? 20 ‘taken ill’ ‘Approximately 20 people were taken ill. One ‘lady’ fainted in MG and banged her head, wound dressed she was advised to take a taxi to hospital, but went back into theatre, came out again feeling dizzy, still refused to go to hospital. Nurse was in First Aid room with her friend.’ 22 Jun Mat Hot and sunny 13.4 1328 869 459 2 47? 1 47 ‘taken ill’ 371 Date Mat / Eve Weather Start time Ticket Sales Seated Yard Wheelchairs Fainters Fainters-under- Repeat membrane Fainters 'Feeling’ Faint Vomiters Difficulty Standing Ambulance /Hospital Leavers ‘Approximately 47 people were taken ill today, in various areas of the theatre- particularly those stood beneath the canopy. Most people recovered quickly after resting in the First Aid room or on the mats FOH and the Fireman had placed in shaded areas outside. One girl left the theatre feeling dizzy and FOH was informed by her teacher that she had epilepsy and often had brief fits. FOH laid her on her side, as her teacher had been advised, and the Fireman went to get a screen so as to minimise any distress caused to other ill patrons in the vicinity. As the Fireman was away the girl did fit but she recovered quite quickly and returned to the theatre 15 minutes later.One patron vomited in Upper East, the situation was quickly attended to by Hotel. Audiences were (‘wisely’) avoiding the ‘direct sunlight’, This led to areas of congestion, particularly around D4.’ 23 Jun Mat Hot and Sunny 13.3 1316 865 451 1 15? 15 ‘taken ill’ ‘Approximately 15 people were taken ill today- none of them serious. One lady felt faint in the MG and lay down behind the seating bank with her feet on the musician’s bench. As she was rather a large lady FOH had to wait until she was able to walk round to the First Aid room, where she rested and complained of a migraine. After resting for twenty minutes, against the Fireman’s advice, she returned to the theatre.’ 24 Jun Eve Hot and humid 19.1 1330 867 463 0 10? 1 10 ‘taken ill’, 10 came out ‘Ten people were taken ill this evening and around ten more sat on the Piazza in order to get some fresh air but did not require first aid. One girl came out of D3 and vomited near the cushion cart, the situation was quickly dealt with by Hotel. A steward brought a lady out of Door Three who felt dizzy and faint. The lady refused any first aid treatment and opted to lie on the bench outside Door Three. During Act Two one of the stewards was feeling unwell so was taken to the first aid room to lie down. FOH then sent her home to recuperate.’ 25 Jun Mat Hot and humid 13.37 1322 869 453 many ‘came out’ 1 ‘Many people came out 20 mins into the show to try to get cool. There were several minor first aid cases who recovered and returned to the theatre. Approx 2.45 a lady in the back row of Bay J passed out and had to be placed in a semi-recovery position along the bench- vomited etc. ended up going to hospital.’ 26 Jun Eve Hot and humid 19.19 1352 867 485 2+ 1+ 9 ‘required first aid attention’ ‘One music student fainted and cut his head and went to hospital, one ‘lady’ passed out under the canopy and vomited violently.
