The Westin St. Maarten Dawn Beach Resort & Spa

the standard Westin amenities, including hairdryers,

All PBA functions are casual dress (shorts and

Due to the tropical climate, brief rain showers can be
expected at any time. We recommend that you bring
along cotton garments (light colors), shorts and long
pants, tennis shoes, hat, swimsuit and sandals. A
light jacket may be needed in the evening and in the
hotel air conditioning.

The resort’s Las Vegas-style casino offers a variety
of Vegas-style games, including more than 200 slot
machines, blackjack, three-card poker, roulette and
Texas hold-em poker. Daily events and promotions
include bingo, live entertainment, free tournaments,

Maarten is 18 years of age; however, you must be
21 years of age to consume alcohol at the Westin
Resort.
• Weather: The Trade Winds cool the island to a
pleasant 66°F -83°F in the winter. The island is
warm and sunny year round with the best times to
visit from November to June.
ISLAND TRAVEL
Buses are inexpensive and run unscheduled routes
around the island; they are clearly marked with
their destination. Taxis are available at all key entry
points (airports, resorts, ferry docks, cruise ship pier
and docks) and at designated points in Philipsburg
and Marigot. Taxi cab service is available at the
Westin Resort. Prestige Value Car Rental is located

• Currency: On the Dutch side, the currency is the
U.S. dollar; the Euro is the official currency on
the French side; however, U.S. dollars are accepted
everywhere. ATMs are open 24 hours.
• Dress Code: The island is casual and laid back,
but swimwear should stay on the beach and is not
appropriate in the streets, restaurants and casinos.
• Driving: International driver’s license
• Documents: A valid U.S. passport is needed to
travel to St. Maarten.
• Electricity: (Dutch St. Maarten): 110-volt AC, the
same as U.S.
• Language: Dutch and French are the official
languages; however, English is widely spoken.

Shopping is one of the big attractions on St. Maarten/
St. Martin. Enjoy duty-free shopping in numerous
boutiques for popular goods, including local arts and

dollar. St. Martin uses the Euro as its currency. See

educational, interactive and fun activity programs

ages. Morning, afternoon and full-day sessions are

Liquid Poolside Deli & Bar offers light fare

Most tours require a minimum number of participants.
PBA will contact you if the tour or activity for which
you have registered does not have the necessary
number of participants. There will be no on-site
registration for these exclusive pre-arranged
tours. If you want to participate in a tour, please

registration will help to determine if we have the
minimum number of participants. Please note any
age restrictions. Anyone under 18 years of age must be
accompanied by an adult.
Airport Adventure SXM
Saturday: 12:30 p.m. – 5:30 p.m.
Thousands of tourists visit the beach at Maho Bay
every week to view jet takeoffs and landings at the
Princess Juliana International Airport (SXM) of St.
Maarten. The airport’s runway is very short, and it
ends at Maho Bay. Experience the very low-altitude
landings and feel the tornadic take-offs. You will
take a scenic boat ride from the dock in Philipsburg
along the coast to Maho Bay, where you can watch
the planes while you relax in a lounge chair, swim,
float or snorkel in the crystal waters. Equipment such
as styrofoam noodles and snorkel gear is provided,
and the certified rescue staff will watch the designated
snorkel area at all times. Also available are floatation
devices and gear in kids’ sizes, which makes this
activity very suitable for the entire family! To make
sure you won’t miss any planes, flight arrivals and
departures will be posted and announced. Cocktails
and food can be purchased on board.

Art Lover’s Tour

St. Maarten/St. Martin boasts many fine galleries
and artists’ studios. This three-hour tour takes you
around the island’s most charming local districts to
visit the island’s own elite group of talented artists.
Tour participants, if they wish, can acquire a work of
art, with prices ranging from a few dollars for a set
of postcards or prints to thousands of dollars for oil
paintings. Artists may vary.
Price: $45 per person
Minimum: 8 people

Recommended Attire: Comfortable shoes, sunscreen,
hat, sunglasses.
ATV Tour
Saturday: 8:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.
Experience the island on Fancy Quads. After a briefing
on how the equipment works, your guides will take
you for an off-road adventure from Oyster Pond to
French Quarter with beautiful coastal views and then
on to Orient Beach. The next stop is Grand Case, an
old fishing village and the dining capital of St. Martin,
for a drink stop. Continue on the road through La
Savanne enroute to Marigot, the capital of the French
side. Travel over Cole Bay Hill to the capital of the
Dutch side, Philipsburg, and down Front Street for
shopping at more than 50 jewelry stores.

Catamaran Prickly Pear & Anguilla
Friday: 7:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.
Sail by catamaran to Prickly Pear Cays, which is
pure paradise! Enjoy the deserted beach and snorkle
and/or swim in the turquoise-blue water a short
distance off the coast of Anguilla. Then you will head
to Anguilla for a great Caribbean lunch: a choice
of BBQ chicken, fish or ribs with salad, rice and
peas. After lunch, there is time to take a swim before
returning to St. Maarten. This sail is a great choice

Extreme Zip Line – Loterie Farm
Thursday – 1:00 p.m. – 4:30 p.m.
Get ready for thrilling treetop gliding through the
Hidden Forest of the 150-acre Loterie Farm, nestled
high on the slope of the island’s highest mountain,
Pic Paradis, on the French side. Once a thriving
sugar plantation, Loterie Farm is now a haven for
eco-tourists and Caribbean cuisine. The friendly
“cable guys” will instruct you along this exhilarating
course of secure zip lines, rope swings and “bridges”
suspended from platforms mounted in some of
the tallest Royal Palm trees on the island. Choose
from the moderate zip line or the extreme zip line
experience. You must be at least 18 years old for the
extreme zip line.

Marigot Shopping

Marigot, the capital of French St. Martin, is home to
numerous good restaurants, cafes and an excellent
array of boutiques with fashions straight out of Paris.
The town is distinctly French with a touch of Creole.
Marigot’s harborfront features a public market and
souvenir stalls with plenty of restaurants and openair bars.

Shopping/Sightseeing in Philipsburg
Wednesday - 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.
Friday – 11:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
Philipsburg, the capital of Dutch St. Maarten, fills
a narrow stretch of land between Great Bay and the
Great Salt Pond. Founded in 1763 by John Philips, a
Scottish captain in the Dutch Navy, it soon became
a bustling center of international trade. Spend time
wandering along cobblestone Front Street, where you
will find wonderful shopping for electronics, jewelry,
designer clothing, perfumes and much more. Pop
into the stores that have offered discount vouchers
and then stroll along the Boardwalk for a refreshing
beverage or snack. Other attractions in Philipsburg
are the St. Maarten Museum, which offers a glimpse
into the island’s history, various casinos, the historic
courthouse, and Cyrus Wathey Square, flanked
by elegant Royal Palm trees. The square opens to
Captain Hodge Wharf, where ship tenders pick up
and drop off cruise passengers. This excursion is for
shopping/sightseeing on your own.

Simpson Bay Lagoon Kayaking
Saturday: 8:15 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
After a quick briefing, you will start your tour on
the Port de Plaisance Resort beach and follow your
friendly guides on an informative tour through the
beautiful and tranquil Simpson Bay Lagoon. Explore
the mangroves and pick up the Upside Down Jellyfish
and the strange Sea Cucumbers which thrive in
these shallow waters. Search for the rarely seen Grey
and Blue Herons, which nest in these quiet havens.
Continue along the coast where you will be shown
the border that has signified a peaceful separation of
the Dutch and French parts of St. Maarten/St. Martin
since the 1600s. Paddle by some of the world’s most
luxurious motor yachts, then continue through the
Bridge into the quiet bay for a well-deserved swim
at the beautiful Simpson Bay Beach. This tour is
recommended for ages 10 and older.

The Edge to St. Barth’s
Thursday: 7:30 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.
Travel on “The Edge” Ferry arriving at Gustavia,
the capital of St. Barth’s. Spend time wandering
the playground of the rich and famous. Shop in
the heart of high-end shops and boutiques. Enjoy
a little “European and a lot of Caribbean” or have
a “Cheeseburger in Paradise” day at Le Select! St.
Barth’s is known for its beautiful beaches, including
St. Jean Beach, only a short taxi cab ride away. Watch
for the “stars” who call this once-Danish port, now a
French town, home.

Three Island Snorkel

with powerful twin engines will take you in style and
comfort. This 4-hour trip will explore the beautiful
north side of the island and offers snorkeling at two
of St. Maarten’s best reefs. Visit the exotic beaches
of Pinel Island and Tintamarre with their great
atmospheres and views. This trip offers snorkeling
instruction. Quality snorkeling equipment, safety
gear, belts, life jackets, water, soda, beer and snacks

GETTING THERE
Taxi Service
To ensure that you are able to travel at your preferred
time on your preferred airline, it is recommended
that you reserve your flights as soon as possible.
Please refer to your airline’s current baggage
requirements and baggage fees. The Princess
Julianna International Airport (SXM) is located
approximately 30 miles from the Westin Resort and is
serviced by most major airlines.
Taxi service is available 24 hours a day. The average
taxi fare between the Princess Juliana International
Airport and the hotel is $35 one way for two people;
plus $5 for each additional person including one
piece of luggage per person. Taxi rates increase 25
percent after 10:00 p.m. and increase 50 percent after
midnight until 6:00 a.m.

Round-trip group transportation between the
Princess Juliana International Airport and the hotel
is available through the PBA at $53 per person.
Airport transportation will be provided by Caribbean
Concierge Services (C.C.S.), which will provide
uniformed staff members in lime green shirts to
greet you outside the airport. Be sure to look for
the PBA signage. You will then be escorted to an
air-conditioned van and will travel directly to the
Westin Resort. You must pre-register and pre-pay for
this service. Prices quoted include all gratuities for
drivers. Baggage/portage handling is not included in
the per person transfer fee.
Cell Phone Usage/Service in St. Maarten
We encourage you to check with your cell phone
provider on coverage and international plans
before you leave the U.S. so you do not experience
interruptions in your service. Roaming and data
charges are likely to apply while in St. Maarten.

You MUST register through the PBA to
attend any Midyear Meeting events.
The PBA package includes hotel accommodations;
all taxes, housekeeping gratuity; round-trip bellman
fees; meeting registration fee for one attorney;
Wednesday’s Welcome Dinner and Saturday’s
Farewell Dinner events. The package does not include
airfare, other meals, beverages, tour excursions, CLE
fees and ground transfers.
There is an additional $200 surcharge if the
registering attorney is not a PBA member.
The double registration fee includes the PBA
registration fee for one attorney. If two attorneys are
sharing a room and both are registered to attend
CLE, an additional $150 over the double package rate
will be charged.
You are encouraged to register early. In the past, PBA
Midyear Meetings have sold out.

– Sunday Package: Each guest room will
accommodate up to four people with the existing
bedding. Roll-a-way beds are available at no charge
based upon availability. Additional adult fees are
incurred for anyone 18 years of age and older
over the double occupancy price per room. The

taxes, housekeeping gratuity, roundtrip bellman
fees, Wednesday’s Welcome Dinner and Saturday’s
Farewell Dinner events.

LATE REGISTRATIONS
Registration deadline is close of business on Dec.
18, 2015. Registrations received after that date will
be charged an additional $50 late fee and will be
accepted on a space-available basis. Late registrations
may not qualify for PBA rates.
CANCELLATION POLICY
Cancellation date: By 5:00 p.m. on Dec. 21,
2015.
Any cancellations received after 5:00 p.m. on Dec. 21,
will not receive a refund. Early departures will not
receive a refund. All cancellations must be received
in writing and postmarked or fax-dated by the
published cancellation date. PLEASE NOTE: If you
experience inclement weather on your departure day
to St. Maarten, you will not receive a refund. The
hotel charges the PBA for all reservations made after
Dec. 21, 2015. We suggest you purchase Travel & Trip
Cancellation Insurance.
