Registration is open to all admitted students who have completed registration requirements such as COMPASS

prerequisites are not completed. Meet with your academic advisor to arrange your schedule of classes. Obtain your
advisor’s signature on the completed registration form. Students with a “financial obligation” will not be allowed to
register until the obligation is cleared.

session. Go to Van Lare Hall for completion of your registration (course enrollment and/or tuition payment). You
will be given further directions at the Registrar’s Office.
Van Lare Hall Registration: If your advisor is not participating in Web registration, please bring your completed

Registration portion of the WebAdvisor Student Menu. Be aware that course prerequisites cannot be overridden
through student web registration. These registrations must be completed by Advisor Web Registration or in the
Registrar’s Office. Enrollments for more than 18 credit hours cannot be completed through WebAdvisor. Approval

Admissions Policy
Alpena Community College grants admission to all
persons who have earned a high school Diploma,
Certificate of Completion or GED, or who are 18 years
of age or older, and who demonstrate the ability to
benefit from a particular program of study. Ability to
benefit may be demonstrated by those who:
1. Have satisfactory skills* as measured by institutional
placement testing for reading, language and
numerical skills or
2. Can produce Test of English as a Foreign Language
(TOEFL) test score results of 500 or better when
coming from a non-English speaking country.
The age requirement is waived for a high school student who:
1. Is a dually enrolled high school student* as provided
for by the State School Aid Act, as amended, or
2. Is certified as having attained junior status toward
graduation as determined by the high school or the
home schooling association issuing the diploma.
College course enrollment will be determined in
accordance with the Alpena Community College
COMPASS placement test results for reading,
language and numerical skills.
* Interested high school students should contact their
high school principal or guidance counselor for further
information.
This admissions policy applies to admission to the
College only and is intended to assure students of both
opportunity and quality in programs. Admission to a
specific curriculum or course is based on student interest,
achievement, and test scores necessary for preparation to
enter a specific program or course.
ACC Spring 2015 Class Schedule — Page 3
Repetitive Course Enrollment Policy
Alpena Community College credit courses may be repeated only once where any grade (i.e., A-W) has been earned.
Specifically, if a course has been taken twice and any grade was earned, written permission from the office of the Vice
President for Academic and Student Affairs is required prior to a third enrollment. The highest grade in the course will be
used in calculating the student’s grade point average.
Important Information for Students Receiving Financial Aid:
Courses taken for Audit and courses repeated more than once after previously passing the course do not count as part of a
student’s financial aid enrollment status, and can affect your financial aid award.
Effective Date: Spring 2012 Semester
Spring 2015 ACC Graduates
Students completing a degree or certificate program must submit a Request for Graduation to the Registrar’s Office.
Applications are available in the Registrar’s Office, Huron Shores Office or may be submitted through WebAdvisor.
The Spring 2015 deadline for submitting a Request for Graduation is February 6. There is no graduation fee.
Online Courses for Spring 2015
Do you wish to take classes but are unable to attend at standard times? Online courses make it easy
for you to take classes over the Internet when it’s convenient for you. Not every student is a candidate
for distance education, but those with an extra measure of motivation and self-discipline may find the
convenience appealing. For more information regarding Internet-based classes, contact the instructor.
Enrollment in online courses after the semester start requires instructor permission.

SUMMER/FALL 2015 COURSES
A class schedule featuring the Summer/
Fall 2015 courses will be released in late
Spring. For those interested in planning a
schedule before then, you can check the
course rotation schedule on our website
(see below for directions.) While this
schedule is subject to change, it can give
you an idea of what classes will typically
be offered each semester. Additionally,
academic advisors can help students
determine what classes should be taken
during each semester to meet their
individual academic goals.
Finding the Course Rotation Schedule:
Under the Current Students Tab, go to the “Register for Classes” Section.
Under “Registration Directions,” there is a link that will take you to the Course Rotation Schedule.

The College policies and practices for admission, employment and activities comply with requirements of
Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, Title IX of the Education Amendment of 1972, Section 504 of

race, color, religion, national origin, gender, sex, age or disability. The College practices and policies also
comply with the Michigan Persons with Disabilities Civil Rights Act (PDCRA) and the Michigan ElliottLarson Civil Rights Act (ELCRA) which prohibits discrimination in hiring based on age, height, weight

School Closing Policy
Alpena Community College draws students from
a large area and has two campuses located 50 miles
apart. The weather can vary dramatically over this
large area. Students are responsible for determining
the advisability of travel during severe conditions.
In extreme situations, the College may alter its
schedule of operation at the Alpena Campus and/
or at the Huron Shores Campus in one of the
following ways: delay morning opening; cancel
classes only; or close (cancel classes and close all
offices/services). At these times, area radio stations
are requested to assist in notifying students.
LISTEN CAREFULLY to hear the correct status
of operations. The College telephone greeting
also informs callers of weather-related closing,
cancellation of classes, or delay in opening.
Call (989) 356-9021 for the Alpena Campus,
(989) 739-1445 for the Huron Shores Campus.
Travel decisions are the responsibility of each
student after assessing the road conditions in their
respective area, the condition of their vehicle and
their driving skills.
The College does not encourage students to take
unnecessary risks in order to attend classes. If a
student misses classes due to inclement weather, the
student must notify the faculty member at the earliest
possible time, preferably within 24 hours. Excused
absence because of inclement weather is generally
a matter between the student and instructor; the
student should consult the instructor’s syllabus for
specific make-up work procedures.
For more info on this system,

Appeal to All Ages
Michigan Transfer Agreement
* Replaces MACRAO Transfer Agreement beginning Fall 2014
MACRAO Agreement for students who started prior to
Fall 2014. Completion Deadline – Summer 2019 –
see Registrar.
Sure, ACC has many great for-credit programs,
but did you know about our Community
Education classes? Community Ed classes
offer recreation and education without a major
investment of time or money. Classes are
stress-free, non-credit, and of short duration.
Community Ed can help you expand horizons,
learn new skills, meet people, and have fun.
Alpena Community College participates in the Michigan
Transfer Agreement between public and private
community colleges and universities in Michigan. This
agreement provides ACC students more assurance of
having completed their general education requirements
when they transfer to a participating four-year college or
university. Working closely with your academic advisor is
recommended to assure meeting MTA requirements. To
fulfill the Michigan Transfer Agreement, students must
successfully complete at least 30 credits, with at least a 2.0
in each course.
A wide variety of classes are offered each semester.
For more info, or to be on the mailing list to
receive a schedule, please call (989) 358-7271 or
(888) 468-6222, extension 7271.
To be eligible for the Michigan Transfer Agreement at
Alpena Community College, a minimum of 1 college
level course must be taken at Alpena Community College.
Transcripts of ACC graduates who meet the MTA
requirements will automatically be certified for MTA
when degrees are posted to academic records. Students
who transfer prior to the completion of a degree program
but have completed the MTA requirements may also be
certified upon request. Requests should be made to the
Registrar, 108 Van Lare Hall.
