HOW TO SHOOT A PRESENTER-LED VIDEO
A GRIEF-FREE GUIDE TO SAVE YOU TIME AND MONEY
If you are thinking of shooting a presenter-led video we thought
we’d put together some simple ideas to help you make the best
possible film.
Before you start filming you must ensure that the script is
completed to your satisfaction (if it’s not, you’ll be making a lot of
extra work for yourself).
OK – your script is complete and you’re ready to make your film – let’s
get started!
Let’s assume that you want to make the film as economically as
possible so here are some quick tips for filming on your camera
/phone…

will make all the difference.

FORMAT
Shoot in landscape NOT vertically!
IF YOU’RE THINKING OF FILMING
EXPOSURE
Set the Auto-Exposure/
Auto-Focus/Auto-White Balance
to ensure the best quality.
INSIDE HERE ARE SOME MORE TIPS:
Make sure it’s not noisy – you
want to hear what the
presenter/spokesperson is saying.
1.5m
ABC
The general rule for clear audio is
to get your microphone as close to
your subject as possible.
Bring as much light into the room
as you can. If you can’t get your
hands on any studio lights turn on
lamps and open blinds to let the
outside light in.
Make sure there’s nothing visually
distracting in the background such
as people walking by.

Alternatively you can use cue-cards
– make sure the text is big enough
to be able to read from 1.5 metres
and place them as close to the
lens as you can.
Shoot separate shots rather than
panning (side-to-side).
Some people can speak brilliantly
without referring to notes (but
most of us can’t!) so we suggest
you use an auto-cue/teleprompter
on your iPad/tablet. These are
inexpensive apps which are quick
to download and easy to use.
Although you’ll be tempted, don’t
use the zoom! This will result in
unsightly pixels. If you want a
closer shot, just move your feet!
HAPPY FILMING!
