California State University, Fresno Foundation PROGRAM SPECIALIST / ADVISOR – RENAISSANCE SCHOLAR PROGRAM (RSP) JOB ANNOUNCEMENT #15-758 POSITION SUMMARY: Full-time, benefited position for the Renaissance Scholar Program through the California State University, Fresno Foundation. The Renaissance Scholars Program is a comprehensive support program that supports ambitious, college-bound individuals, formerly in foster care. The program is committed to providing a system of support and experiences that will empower students to grow into self-sufficient adults and future leaders in the community. DUTIES AND Under the direct and supervision of the Renaissance Scholars coordinator, the incumbent will be RESPONSIBILITIES: responsible for the following. Duties include but are not limited to: • Function as a liaison for various departments on campus and off campus to ensure the needs of Renaissance Scholars are met (EOP, University Courtyard, Financial Aid, Services for Students with Disabilities, Psychological Services, Career Services, Student Involvement, etc.) • Planning, developing, organizing and coordinating events on and off campus which involves reserving meeting rooms (25 Live), coordinating catering, budgeting, preparing of fliers, programs, award certificates, and student packets • Coordinate program services for students and committee members (emergency fund, education related fund, semester stipends, laptop lending, service-learning, etc.) • Meet with students each semester to complete a semester budget and financial plan • Provide students with letters of recommendations for internships, employment, readmission petitions, academic support letters, and financial aid reinstatement • Plan and organize the Renaissance Scholars summer transitional program (LINC) • Co-teach a University 1 course • Supervise student interns and student workers (as needed) • Coordinate applications and selection process for incoming students • Review and interpret documentation that establishes student foster youth, legal guardianship, or homeless status • Monitor and maintain program records, documentation, and files. Correspond with students and students’ advocates (foster parents, legal guardians, social workers, etc.) on all aspects of RS program • Maintain program website and printed material • Assist the coordinator with writing and preparing reports, evaluations, proposals and other documents necessary for the continued funding and successful program operation • Participate in outreach activities and facilitate presentations (as needed) • Provide general support to the Renaissance Scholars coordinator in developing and improving services • Participate in professional development opportunities as approved by supervisor (conferences, trainings, seminars, etc.) • Perform others duties as assigned QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty & EXPERIENCE: satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. • Bachelor’s degree preferred in Education, Psychology, Counseling, Social Work or related field. • Strong organizational, creative and critical thinking/reasoning abilities and demonstrated competency to oversee multiple tasks with attention to detail • Must be able to maintain a high level of tact and diplomacy and be able to work with a diverse population within the organization and from the local and campus communities. • Must be computer literate, knowledgeable of various software applications and be able operate standard office equipment, which may include ability to troubleshoot minor computer and Page 1 of 2 SALARY: DEADLINE: TO APPLY: printer problems. • Ability to maintain office and program files, prepare and process correspondence, schedule meetings, and maintain program outreach materials • Knowledge of the university and academic policies, procedures and practices and Student Services programs and able to empathize and maintain positive regard for student-related issues • Must demonstrate a clear understanding of the needs, resources, and services relevant to support independent youth, (such as current and former foster youth, homeless, orphaned, unaccompanie youth, and etc.) in post-secondary education • Ability to work effectively with students from diverse and low-economic backgrounds • Must have a strong understanding of university policy and procedures • Ability to collaborate with students, personnel, professionals, university faculty and various comm agencies $2,958.00 - $3,227.00 per month.
