forward-facing seats
Car seats protect children from being injured in a car
crash. When you use the right car seat in the right
way, you can reduce the risk that your child will be
hurt or killed by more than 70%.
Your child must be a minimum of one year old AND
10 kg (22 pounds) to use a forward-facing seat.
It is safer, however, to keep your child rear-facing
for as long as your seat allows. Some seats can be
rear-facing until your child weighs 18 kg (40 lbs).
When your child is ready, this checklist and diagram
will help you properly install your child’s safety seat
in your vehicle.
Before you begin...
I have read the car seat manual that came with the seat to learn how to put it in the car.
I have read my vehicle owner’s manual and know where to best put the car seat in the
car.
My child’s car seat has a round sticker with a maple leaf, which means that it meets
Canadian Safety Standards.
I have checked to see that the car seat has not expired.
I have a checked the history of my second-hand seat and I know that it has never been in
a crash.
I have registered my car seat with the manufacturer by mailing in the warranty card.
My child’s weight and height are within the limits for this car seat.
The car seat is in the back seat of the vehicle.

If using a lap &

tested the belt to see
that it is “locked” in

slipped, I have used
a locking clip.
The car seat moves less than
one inch side-to-side.
My child will stay in a 5-point
harness until they are AT
LEAST 40 pounds (18 kg).
