And bread is everywhere. Manna (bread) sustained the Israelites in the wilderness. Jesus was tempted to turn stones into bread. He twice fed 4,000+ with just a few loaves. He was born in Bethlehem (meaning: house of bread). Here Jesus makes the statement that anyone coming to Him will never go hungry. Ask Him to fill the hungry places in your life with enough ‘bread’ to give away. With six words, He made the stunning claim that He was God, that He existed before their patriarch was born 1800 years before. And the people understood what Jesus was saying, because they tried to stone Him for blasphemy. If you believe that Jesus is the I AM and is present with you right now, what difference can that make? 02 | Wed – “Before Abraham was, I AM.” | Read John 7:53 ‐ 8:59 If there was any doubt, Jesus swept it away in verse 58. There is a reason why cartoonists often draw a light bulb above their character’s head when they finally understand a problem and the solution. The ‘light’ finally dawns. They knew that a shepherd would stand guard at the opening of the pen to protect his sheep. They knew that a true shepherd, unlike a hired hand, will do anything to save his sheep because he loves them. Sheep are fearful animals, easily spooked, but they know the sound of their shepherd’s voice and it calms them. Listen to Jesus’ words today and find peace. 04 | Fri – “I AM the gate ‐ I AM the good Shepherd.” | Read John 10:1‐42 Shepherds were a common sight to Jesus’ listeners. There are so many things that die ‐ hope, relationships, dreams, but nothing is too hard for Jesus to bring back to life, if it will honor God...so ask. 05 | Sat – “I AM the resurrection and the life.” | Read John 11:1‐53 Jesus spoke to Martha beside her brother’s grave: “He who believes in me will live, even though he dies.” When He asked her, “Do you believe this?” she could say yes because she knew He was the I AM.
