PENN BRANCH AREA RELIABILITY UPGRADES
Background
Project Work Plan Description
Pepco is committed to providing safe and reliable electric service
to more than 250,000 customers in the District of Columbia.
On September 30, 2010, Pepco formally filed its Reliability
Enhancement Plan with the Public Service Commission of the
District of Columbia. This plan advances the company’s work
on existing reliability enhancement programs as well as
incorporates news activities to reduce the frequency and
duration of outages for our customers.
Feeder 00118
I Installed 4,308 feet of primary distribution wire, 5,097 feet
of secondary wire, 80 feet of underground secondary
cables, and replaced 55 poles
I Construction was completed in August 2012
Feeder 00244
I Replacing 24,391 feet of primary distribution lines, 14,083
feet of secondary lines, 8,677 feet of service wire, 94 poles
and 38 transformers
I Construction began in February and will be completed in
June 2013

The Penn Branch upgrade involves projects on three feeders. A
feeder is a power line that delivers electricity to many homes
and businesses. The first project began in May 2012 and was
completed in August 2012. Work on the second and third
feeders began in February 2013 and is expected to be
completed by June 2013. This project includes the installation of
thousands of feet of primary, secondary and residential power
lines and a total of 44 transformers and 168 poles. The
enclosed map defines the location of each feeder.
