Week 9
Virtue
Truthfulness
Whakaata-pono
I don’t know if the clocks are moving faster or I’m just getting older,
but ‘man’ this year is flying! We have one more term before we
farewell our Year Six tamariki at graduation. For most, I remember
them as fresh faced five year olds, buzzing with nervous excitement at
starting school. Now look at them, eager and ready to move into the
next exciting chapter of their life.
SCHOOL SPEECH COMPETITION
It was great to see parents, family and whanau support our school
Speech Competition, yesterday. It was without doubt a highlight to
see our 5 and 6 year old recite poetry in between the speech finalists.
Thanks to our past Board trustee Zana Travis and our Board
Chairman Ray Tucker for judging the speeches. The results are:
Year 6 - 1st Treal Niwa, 2nd Alan Baker, 3rd Bethany McKibbin
Year 5 - 1st Sam McKibbin, 2nd Constintine Nuku, 3rd Ashlee Dean
Year 4 - 1st Eden T McLachlan, 2nd Ruby Whitehead, 3rd Lexus Opetaia
Year 3 - 1st Thomas Keheley, 2nd Emily Baker, 3rd Andreana Deller
Year 2 - 1st Arlandshay Niwa, 2nd Joseph Nicholas, 3rd Vanessa Baker
TERM 4 CRICKET
We have tamariki keen to play cricket again next term. BUT we
desperately need a coach and manager to make these Saturday
morning games happen for our kids! See Mrs La Master if interested.
BEING SUNSMART IN TERM 4
From Tuesday 25 October - the day after Labour Day- our Sun Smart
Policy kicks into effect. All students will need to be wearing their
uniform bucket hat. Children not wearing a hat will need to spend
their fuel breaks in the library or designated shade area. If you are in
need of a spare or replacement hat, they can be purchased at the office
for $16. Baseball caps are not SunSmart approved hats.
YEAR 5 & 6 – ROOMS 1 & 3 CAMP
Our annual camp has been planned for 9 to 11 November at Vertical
Horizons in Inglewood.
The camp cost will be estimated at $150 per child, depending on
fundraising costs this could be cheaper. A lot of our parents have
found that setting up a weekly payment for this is an excellent way to
get there. See Mrs La Master, Ms Warren or Mrs Gilmour at the office
if you would like us to set this up for you.

MOBILE DENTAL UNIT AT MARFELL
Janet and Whina have now completed their second visit to Marfell for
2016 and would like to thank all families and parents who attended
with their children and for returning the forms required. This was
very much appreciated. Janet and Whina will see you all in 2017.
CELEBRATING SUCCESS
Congratulations to Haylen Niwa-Te Huia who was selected for the
Under 11 Taranaki Whanui League Team. We wish Haylen good luck
at the Teina Tournment, which he is currently attending.
Have a safe and funtastic holiday break.

THE VIRTUE OF TRUTHFULNESS
Truthfulness is …
… being honest in your words and actions
...not telling lies, even to protect yourself from getting into trouble
…not listening to gossip and prejudice
