ÇElEBi
Celebrating 50 years of
skilled ground handling
Ç
elebi Ground Handling, the first privately owned ground handling company in the Turkish aviation industry, was established in 1958 at Ankara
Esenboğa Airport. In February 2008 the
Company celebrates its 50th anniversary
in the aviation sector.
Çelebi is the leading company in its
field in Turkey, with almost half a century’s worth of experience, and is one of
the largest ground handling companies in
Europe, providing service at 22 stations.
With advanced technology and equipment and highly skilled employees, the
company serves around 300 customers that fly in and out of Turkey, including
many major international airlines.
Diverse services
Çelebi supplies passenger, ramp, operations, load control and communication, cargo and mail services, warehouse
operation, representation, management
and surveillance, as well as other aircraft services such as aircraft cleaning,
de-icing and refuelling. The company has
stations at Adana, Ankara, Antalya, Bodrum, Bursa, Çorlu, Dalaman, Diyarbakır,
Erzurum, Gaziantep, Isparta, İstanbul,
İzmir, Kars, Kayseri, Malatya, Mardin,
Samsun, Sivas, Tokat, Trabzon, and Van
international airports in Turkey.
Celebi Ground Handling opened its
warehouse facilities for complete services at İstanbul Atatürk International Airport in 2003 and, as the natural extension
of ground handling, Çelebi Cargo & Warehouse has been providing services with
the same superior quality since then.
Continuing operations at Atatürk
Unfortunately Çelebi Cargo & Warehouse
was seriously affected by the fire that
www.airtransportpubs.com
broke out in the cargo terminal of Istanbul
Atatürk Airport in May 2006. Çelebi is now
working hard to resume its operations and
until then is continuing its cargo operations at its new off-airport warehouse at
Bağcılar district, which was opened on
March 13th 2006. Occupying 6,740m²
of grounds, the Bağcılar Warehouse has
6,593m² of bonded space and a 2,500
pallet capacity. This ‘logistics terminal’,
fully equipped with high-tech systems, is
now being used for import cargo handling
operations.
Constantly evolving
In 2004, Çelebi was awarded the contract to construct the second international terminal at Antalya Airport by the
State Airport Authority, under its buildoperate-transfer model. A new company,
Çelebi-IC, was founded for the construction and operation of what is now the second largest terminal in Turkey. The terminal was opened in April 2005. Handling
10 million passengers per year, AYTerminal2 is highly technologically advanced in
terms of both security and comfort.
Keeping a close watch on investment
opportunities in ground handling services,
airports and terminal operations in other
countries, Çelebi initiated a first step onto
the international platform and won the
Budapest ground handling services contract. Çelebi Holding and Çelebi Ground
Handling’s subsidiary in Hungary, Çelebi
Tanacsado Kft, have together purchased
Budapest Airport Handling Kft, a ground
handling services company at Budapest
Ferihegy International Airport. The company has been re-named Çelebi Ground
Handling Hungary (Çelebi GH Hungary).
By joining the Group, Çelebi GH Hungary takes advantage of the Çelebi
Group’s strong customer relationships in
order to expand its international airline
customer portfolio. Çelebi GH Hungary
also benefits greatly from the IT and operational support and procurement clout
arising from its membership of the Çelebi
Group.
Reputable
Çelebi is an accredited user of the Airport
Handling Standards Quality System (AHS
1000) and uses the IATA AHM 804 at its
major stations. The company is also ISO
9001:2000 certified.
Çelebi is a member of the International Air Transport Association
(IATA), International Aviation Handlers’
Association (IAHA), Airports Council International (ACI), The International Air Cargo
Association (TIACA) and is a founding
member of AVIANCE. (
