PBIS (POSITIVE BEHAVIOR INTERVENTION SUPPORT)
During the month of March, we are focusing
on behavior expectations on the playground. Students should make sure to play fairly, include everyone in games, and take turns with equipment.
They should also keep the playground clean. We
will also be working on dismissal time. Students
should be ready to leave when the bell rings. They
need to go directly to their assigned location and
follow all directions from the teachers. They
MUST be careful crossing streets and cross with
the Crossing Guards. Those students with an average of A/B for the month of March will receive
freeze pops on March 30.
Be Safe.
Be Respectful.
Be Responsible.

PRE-K This month Pre-k students have been exploring new shapes and reviewed old ones, like: trapezoid, rhombus, and triangle. We have been exploring how shapes go together to create and build, as well as favorite fairytales and folk tales like: The
Frog Prince and 3 Billy Goats Gruff. The Red Bluff Farm visited and the Pre-K students got to visit with some real pigs, goats and
chicks. Thank you to all the parents who generously gave time and effort to chaperone our Zoo Field trip, we had a wonderful
successful trip, and we appreciate your support. As we look forward to Spring there are several other activities coming our way:
Family Game Night, Book Fair, Field trips to Lafreniere Park and Annie Jr, as well as Spring Fling.
KINDERGARTEN Kindergarteners enjoyed a busy February with a field trip to Children’s Museum. It was a wonderful
day! Students learned about Trombone Shorty. They also received his book. Please help your child with homework daily. Many
students are not turning it in on Friday. Encourage your child to write sentences. Practice makes perfect! Data trackers are being
sent home. Read this carefully. It will reveal your child’s Fountas & Pinnell reading level and their goal level. You will also see iready and Core 5 test results. Please discuss these results with your child.
1st GRADE Our first graders love reading! We are using the RACE strategy- Restate, Answer, Cite, and Explain for comprehension question. Soon we’ll be diving into “The Human Body”. Students will be learning all about how our body functions on a
daily basis. This is a FUN unit your children will love! We are also learning about past and future tense verbs, adjectives and how
to be better writers. We are making great progress in math as well. Students are learning how to add and subtract two-digit
numbers. Please continue to practice handwriting at home as well as addition and subtraction facts.
2nd GRADE The second graders will be identifying and counting money in math. In reading, students will be learning about
the lives of famous people throughout history. Also, they will be continuing to learn how to identify key details within a text. In
science, students will be learning about how animals grow and change. Thank you for all the parents who attended parent teacher
conferences. If you were unable to attend and have any concerns about your child, please do not hesitate to call us. The end of
the school year is quickly approaching. Don’t wait until it is too late!
3rd GRADE Math: We will begin adding and subtracting 3-digit numbers with regrouping. Please practice at home! Reading:
We will continue reading two stories and will have to compare and contrast them both. Read as many books as you can! Parents,
ask your child as many questions as possible. Have them complete a writing activity about the book they read. Science/SS: We
will begin to learn about plants and animals.
**Remember students can access the online program Clever from home. Work on reading and math skills on the weekend or
after school.**
4th GRADE The 4th grade students will be reviewing and preparing for Spring Testing which is right around the corner! The
ELA students are focusing on finding key details and making inferences in Reading class. They are also practicing writing three
paragraph stories when given a prompt and using correct sentence formation and grammar. The Math classes are studying mixed
fractions. In Social Studies the classes are learning about westward expansion and the Industrial Revolution. The Science classes
are discovering facts about ecosystems and adaptations.
5th GRADE Fifth grade is in the final push for testing! In Math, we are working hard with fractions. Students will be able to
add, subtract, multiply, and divide fractions by the end of the year! In Science, we are focusing on Earth Science to finish up the
year. In Social Studies, we are learning how the colonies were set-up and why. In ELA, students will finish The Chronicles of
Narnia, work on writing techniques, and review reading comprehension skills.

LIBRARY NEWS
Audubon’s Library is buzzing with activity as spring approaches!
Students are learning how to be good digital citizens and how to stay
safe online. Readers who read 20 minutes or more a night are getting
rewarded with pizza coupons through Pizza Hut’s Book It program.
In addition, we have some important events sprouting up in
March. The Spring Book Fair begins with a preview day on Friday March 10th. The Book
Fair will be open through Friday March 17th. Students and their families can shop daily
during school hours and during the evening on March 15th at family night. Our second
annual K.I.S.S. (Kids Invite Someone Special) Luncheon will take place on Tuesday March
14th and Thursday March 16th. We want our bookworms to have plenty of opportunities to
fill their bookshelves! You can show your child the importance of being a strong reader
by supporting our Book Fair and events. Your support helps grow our library collection
and put books in student’s hands. Purchases can be made with cash, checks, or credit
cards. We look forward to seeing everyone!
Social Work Corner
As a School Social Worker, one of the issues that comes up for children and parents is recognizing the difference
between Normal Peer Conflict and Bullying. I have included some information on the topic and I hope it is helpful.
Recognizing the Difference Between Normal Peer Conflict and Bullying
Normal Peer Conflict
Bullying
Equal power or friends
Imbalance of power; not friends
Happens occasionally
Repeated negative actions
Accidental
Purposeful
Not serious
Serious with threat of physical or emotional harm
Equal emotional reaction
Strong emotional reaction from victim and little or no emotional reaction from bully
Not seeking power or attention
Seeking power, control, or material things
Not trying to get something
Attempt to gain material things or power
Remorse-will take responsibility
No remorse-blames victim
Effort to solve the problem
No effort to solve problem
How can I, as a parent, help my child develop appropriate social skills?
1. Listen to your child. Validate your child's feelings about any issues that make him/her uncomfortable.
2. Teach your child the effective skills for making friends such as how to share, comprise, and apologize when appropriate.
3. Teach your child to use "I" messages to be assertive but not aggressive such as I don't like it when you grab the
ball out of my hands please don't do that again".
4. Talk to your child about the difference between "telling" and "tattling". Tattling is when you report something just
to get someone in trouble. Telling is when you report things that prevent you or someone else from harm.
5. If a Bullying or other dangerous situation occurs, please encourage your child to tell the nearest adult.
6. Encourage your child to always talk to you!
