Since we began construction in December, we have already made significant progress to production later in the year. The following is an overview of some of our activities. General Contractor: Jacobs Construction was awarded the contract to provide Engineering, Procurement and Project Management services required to bring the Pan Mine into production. Earthworks: VT Construction Company, a Las Vegas based Company, was awarded the contract for all major dirt work required for the Project. VT mobilized on Feb 26, bringing a fleet of 15 scrapers, 4 100ton haul trucks and a fleet of support equipment including graders, dozers, and water trucks. VT will also be responsible for all construction drilling and blasting required on site and the first blast occured on March 18th. Access Road: JCR Construction, an Ely-based contractor, has been commissioned to widen the Pan access road (permitted and pioneered to site in 2013) from 16 feet to 32 feet. The road, from Hwy 50 south to the Pan site, is 5 miles. Construction of the access road was completed in March. NYSE MKT: MDW // TSX: MDW // MIDWAYGOLD.COM MARCH/APRIL 2014 69Kv Power Transmission Line: The required power line is scheduled to be built in two stages for logistical efficiency. This line will deliver electrical power to run the Pan Operations. All materials for the first portion of the line are on site and construction of the line, managed by Mt. Wheeler Power Company, is expected to start in early April. Primary Production Water Well: The primary well for Pan Operations is underway. Alternative Drilling Company is drilling the test hole and hydro-geol- ogists from In Terra Logic are helping evaluate results and plan well development. Pan Mine Fencing: The fencing of the entire Pan property was recently awarded to General Fence Company and installation is underway. The length of the fence line will exceed ten miles. Completion is expected in May. continued on Page 3... FOLLOW US EMPLOYEE PROFILE Eric LeLacheur, Nevada District Geologist, reflected on an old mining record from 1981 found in our Ely exploration office, “In 1981, I didn’t know yet whether I would be a geologist, but I knew for sure that I wasn’t going into mining.” We were curious to hear more of the story. At the beginning of Eric’s college career, he had not yet declared a major. It wasn’t until over a year later that he decided to go into geology. “It was more of a challenge than a known,” said Eric. After college, he wanted to go into the petroleum industry, but the market wasn’t there, so the choice to go into mining was almost an accident. The best opportunities were in mining so he gravitated in that direction. When he started his Master’s degree in Alaska, he had already had several field seasons in exploration geology in his home state of Montana, and knew he wanted to return there eventually. What was it about Montana life that he knew he wanted? The things that Eric loves to do in his spare time are the same things he loves about his job – by design. As a geologist, he can be outside in the mountains, and exploring new places. “If I can do that, it’s almost like not workERIC LELACHEUR SAFETY NOTE ing,” he said, wistfully, as he thought of the administrative duties that he needed to tend to later. Since joining Midway Gold in 2007, administration and almost every other aspect of the exploration business, from permitting to hiring, and much more, have been part of Eric’s responsibilities. He started working on the Pan and Gold Rock projects in 2010 and started up the Ely office alone. Eric expects continued teambuilding as one of the biggest challenges for Midway in the future, but also one of the greatest opportunities for excellence. “Building the disparate parts of the company together toward a common goal,” he says, “will be a feat, but will also put Midway in a position for success.” Eric knows about success. He is an instrumental part of the team responsible for bringing the Pan project into production. “These things only happen a few times in a career,” he said humbly. Having pioneered the drilling at Pan that brought it to a resource of over a million ounces of gold, he certainly has a reason to be proud. Laura Baldwin, Contributor PRIMARY PRODUCTION WATER WELL TEST Last issue, we were excited to announce official recognition of the Pan Mine by the Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA). We already have great MSHA news to report! On Monday, February 24th, we experienced our first inspection by MSHA, a surprise. As mandated by the 1977 Miner’s Act, an MSHA inspection will be conducted a minimum of twice per year, and surprise inspections are the norm. We are proud to report that we passed our first inspection with no citations. Things to remember when visiting an active mine site: - Wear all required PPE (hard hat, safety glasses, steel toe boots, safety vest) whenever outside an office area. - In high noise areas, hearing protection is also required. - When parking your vehicle, be sure to park in a designated area, set your parking brake and chalk the vehicle. - Light vehicles on site must have a strobe light, flag, set of chalks and have headlights on at all times. - Walk-around inspections should be conducted on all vehicles each time you operate. - Never go into an unfamiliar area unescorted. Always obey all safety signs and ASK if you are not sure. James Southcott, Contributor NYSE MKT: MDW // TSX: MDW // MIDWAYGOLD.COM A NEW BENCHMARK Midway’s New Vision Statement - A New Benchmark As we have spent the last few years in transition from an exploration company to a junior gold producer, we have considered how that influences our goals, strategy and overall vision. Our goal has been to achieve gold production at Pan and build out our project portfolio. The overarching business strategy is to focus on simple, manageable, financeable projects, achieve production and then expand from cash flow. Our vision is to pioneer a new benchmark in all aspects of our operations. This vision stretches our employees to look for ways to increase our efficiencies and effectiveness in all our processes and enhance our individual capabilities and capacity for our future growth. Permitting Pan was a benchmark achievement for Midway. The efforts necessary to permit our first project in a 20-month timeframe are a testament to our excitement to be building business in Nevada. It is our hope that we employ this enthusiasm and teamwork toward all aspects of our operations. Rich McAnany & Chris Lewis, Contributors ISSUE NO. 9? Many of our readers noticed that the February newsletter was labeled “Issue No. 9” and expressed their curiosity, so we thought we’d provide a little newsletter history. We had previously published 8 issues of our internal Midway Today newsletter and we also had a Nevada Newsletter that we sent to our Nevada community. This year, we made the decision to consolidate our communications, distribute to a much broader audience and to go paperless! This year’s newsletter theme is “Building Pan” and regular columns will include a construction update, an employee profile and a safety note. We look forward to sharing our experiences in 2014 with you all! Jaime Wells, Contributor FOLLOW US BENEFITS / WELLNESS LUNCH IN THE FAST LANE Did you know that 70% of Americans eat at their desk several times a week? A lunch break is your time to rest and refuel for the second half of your busy schedule. It is also an optimal time for you to make a few healthful food choices to keep you well and functioning at your best level. Tips for getting the most taste and nutrition from your fast food choices: - Ask for whole wheat (or whole grain) bread for sandwiches. - Order steamed, grilled (skinless and boneless) or broiled sandwich meats instead of those that are fried, sauteed or prepared in sauce. - Top your sandwiches with extra vegetables like lettuce and tomato, and hold on high-calorie condiments like mayonnaise and dressing. - Use mustard instead of mayonaise. - Top a sald with grilled chicken to get a serving of protein at times when you don’t want a sandwich. - Drink water, fat-free or low-fat milk, unsweetened tea, or other drinks without added sugars. - Ask for your low-fat or low-calorie salad dressing, on the side. Then use only as much as you need for taste. - Add little or no butter to your food. - Choose fruits and/or low-fat yogurt as your dessert.
