California WIC Association 2010 Management Conference
September 20, 2010 • Town & Country Resort, San Diego
Roadmap: From Gold to Platinum
At our Spring Conference we celebrated the successful launch of the healthy new WIC foods, and
kicked off WIC GOES PLATINUM, a multi-year effort to bring California WIC up to a whole new
level of excellence. Our goal is to integrate our Gold Standard foods, our growing staff wellness
culture, and our participant-centered nutrition education and breastfeeding support into the
overall WIC clinic experience.
Join your WIC management colleagues for a “chock-full” session that will lay some important
groundwork for our Platinum plans. We will hold a one-day conference entitled ROADMAP:
From Gold to Platinum, the day before the National WIC Association’s Nutrition and
Breastfeeding Conference begins, at the same location.
Our new WIC Division Chief Michele van Eyken will provide updates and share her vision. We
will provide direct input to contractors who are planning the ISIS replacement, and announce
the contest winner for naming the new system! We’ll explore strategies for engaging all staff
to work towards a proposed set of Platinum Principles that will get us where we want to
go. Experts from CDPH MCAH Division will show us how to use technology and mapping to
identify unmet WIC needs, and we will get an update on efforts to strengthen links to medical
providers. We have invited Dr. Harold Goldstein, Director of the California Center for Public
Health Advocacy, to tell us more about how WIC can play a pivotal role in fighting obesity by
promoting healthy beverage consumption.
