CrossPoint Children’s Center THE VISION Issue 3 November 2011 From the Director Thanksgiving Trivia: The first thanksgiving celebration can be traced back to the Plymouth Pilgrims in the fall of 1621. The first Thanksgiving feast was held to thank the Lord for sparing the lives of the survivors of the Mayflower, who landed at Plymouth Rock on December 11, 1620. The survivors included four adult women and almost 40 percent of the attendees were children. The Wampanoag chief Massasoit and ninety of the tribesmen were invited to the first Thanksgiving feast. Governor William Bradford invited them for helping the pilgrims survive and for teaching them the skills of cultivating the land. The celebration in 1621 lasted for three days and included games and food. The pilgrims made seven times more graves than huts . . . nevertheless, they set aside a day of thanksgiving. As the Thanksgiving Holidays approach, CrossPoint Children’s Center wants to tell each of you how thankful we are for you, your support, your prayers, and for sending your child to our preschool. As the director of CPCC I often tell the teachers and staff how thankful I am to have each of them as co-workers. I want to take this opportunity to let each parent and child know how thankful I am you are part of our school family. During this time of the year, let’s all make an effort to give thanks for what we have and for what God supplies for us each day. We all need to take time to count our blessings. Teachers’ Corner The teachers would like to remind you of a few helpful and important requests. GENERAL MILLS BOX TOPS FOR EDUCATION – We are again collecting General Mills Box Tops. These box tops will go toward education programs for the classrooms. All you need to do is clip the box top logo from the participating General Mills Products and put them in the designated box in your child’s classroom. Our school gets 10 cents for each box top collected. IMPORTANT INFORMATION AND MATERIALS – Be sure to check your child’s cubbie and classroom file daily. There is information that might be important and reminders about upcoming preschool events. Of course there is that beautiful class and art work filed away and waiting for you to admire. SHEETS AND BLANKETS FOR NAP – If your child stays for nap please be sure to take home his/her sheet and blanket each week and return them to the preschool on the first day of attendance the following week. CHANGE OF CLOTHING – Each child needs to have a change of clothes at school in his/her cubbie. Please label and put the clothes in a large zip-lock bag. The extra clothes are in case of a potty accident or maybe spilling milk or water. GENERAL CLASSROOM SCHEDULES – Class begins each morning at 8:30 am. The first 15 minutes are occupied with learning centers, table and manipulative activities and games that prepare the students for that day’s lessons. Academics begin at 8:45 am, depending on the class, with circle time, flag salutes, prayer, daily lessons and that day’s activities. At 10:00 am snack is served, then starting at 10:15, 10:45 and 11:15 am, classrooms have scheduled playground time. At 12:00 noon lunch time begins and after lunch we start getting ready for nap or for our parents to pick us up. We wash our hands, go to the bathroom, or maybe play in the room or on the playground to settle our lunch. At 1:00 the children staying for nap take a rest until 2:30 and the afternoon daycare begins. The afternoon 4 and 5 year old preschool class begins at 1:00 pm in room #105. They have snack at 2:45 pm and playground time at 3:00 pm. Office Reminders TUITION PAYMENTS – Tuition Express is CrossPoint’s preferred means of tuition payment. If you haven’t filled out a form yet, you can pick one up at the front desk. CHECKING CHILDREN IN AND OUT – Please be sure that you are checking your child in and out each day. If you do not complete the process we are not sure your child attended that particular day or if and when they were picked up. PRESCHOOL OFFICE HOURS – CrossPoint’s office hours are 7:30 am to 4:30 pm. Occasionally office staff is available before and after normal office hours. The front doors will be open during school hours, 6:00 am to 6:30 pm.
