It is unknown who discovered silver
Discovered at approximately 3000
BC.
Because silver was found so long
ago, we can’t be certain where it
was first found. Different websites
all say different things.
The name is from the Anglo-Saxon
name, siolfur
Silver can be obtained from pure
deposits, from silver ores such as
argentite (Ag2S) and horn silver
(AgCl), and in conjunction with
deposits of ores containing lead,
gold or copper.
Silver is used for jewellery and silver
tableware. It makes its appearance better. It’s
also used to make mirrors. Silver is the best
reflector of visible light that we know of.It is
also used in dental alloys, solder and brazing
alloys, electrical contacts and batteries. Silver
paints are used for making printed circuits.
Even with the rise of digital photography,
silver salts are still important in producing
high-quality images and protecting against
illegal copying. Silver has antibacterial
properties and silver nanoparticles are used
in clothing to prevent bacteria from digesting
sweat and forming unpleasant odours. Silver
threads are woven into the fingertips of gloves
so that they can be used with touch screen
phones.
