Kington Golf Club +++++++++ Bradnor Bugle
May 2016
Good News
Julie and Barry Murray the new stewards will be formally
th
starting on 9 May. They plan to move into the
th
accommodation on the 7 so you may see them around that
week-end. If you do, please give them a warm
welcome. Julie will be the main chef and Barry will look after
the bar. They come with good experience from Ringway and
Pannal Golf Clubs. A recent trial meal went down very well
so we have high expectations. Please help them settle in
successfully and give them time to show their best.

Rule Reminder
Captain Kevin was
well supported by
Kington members
when he took his
team to a inter club
match with Builth –
unfortunately the
outcome of the
match was a loss by
71/2 to 21/2.
Every day when I play
golf I try to tell myself
that this is going to be fun
today. I try to put myself
into a great frame of mind
as I walk to the tee – and
then well if you are like
me you all know what
happens next!!
Deflection (in match
play)
If a players ball is
accidentally deflected or
stopped by himself, his
partner or either of their
caddies or equipment the
player incurs a penalty of
one stroke. The ball must
be played as it lies (Rule
19-2)
If a players ball is
accidentally deflected or
stopped by an opponent,
his caddie or his
equipment, there is no
penalty. The player may,
before another stroke is
made by either side,
cancel the stroke and play
a ball, without penalty, as
nearly as possible at the
spot from which the
original ball was last
played or he may play the
ball as it lies (Rule 19-3)
The new Kington
course planner is now
in the Pro Shop.
From the Ladies Section
Our news is that, although we got a thorough drubbing
by Burghill away in the Mail on Sunday, Jenny Kelly
and Iris Corfield are still alive in the Daily Mail, having
seen off Leominster at home. They travel to Brecon
next.
We haven't had an auspicious start to our friendly
matches, with the first two matches being postponed by
our opponents. Our league fixtures have also not gone
well as we were soundly beaten at Droitwich.
One success story is our coffee morning organised so
ably by Teresa Godbert
Coffee Morning Report This seemed to go well and was supported by members (40)
and visitors (8) from the Grove, the Herefordshire and
Burghill golf clubs. We made £697.11 for the Captains’
Charity from the entries ( the mulligans being more popular
than birdies!), the 5 stalls (2 new ones this year; a
chocolatier and a felter), and a great raffle. Glenmuir kindly
hosted a fashion show again for us, we enjoyed the
opportunity to see their range and some orders were
placed. Whilst our own cake and produce made the most
money, all our stallholders enjoy contributing and would like
to be invited again next year. The course played superbly
and we were blessed with a gorgeous day. We had fewer
entries this year from other clubs, so we decided to
advertise generally to give the public the opportunity to
browse the stalls, have a coffee and enjoy the view.
Captain Kevin
did well to win
the Committee
Cup with 82-1672, 2 nd came
Marcel Veillet
with 88-16-72.

Play More Golf
Some of you can ignore this request but for the rest did
you know that according to research " the death rate
amongst golfers is 40% lower than for non-golfers of the
same sex, age and socio-economic status. This
equates to a five year increase in life expectancy for
golfers who play regularly." In addition burning 2,500
calories per week can greatly reduce the risk of heart
disease, diabetes and cancer. Playing nine holes of golf
can burn up to 721 calories and playing two rounds of
golf per week will give a 30-40% reduction in health risk
compared to inactive people.
It doesn't happen to mention what the apres golf does
to these statistics but let's not dwell on that one. The
message is clear if able get out and get playing."
