We Want To Hear From You!
You may have noticed…
Learners-
There is now a link on the District website for the 2011 Reality Check Parent Survey. If
you are an Olsen Park parent
who did not receive a mailed
survey, but want to complete
the questionnaire, this is an
opportunity to hear from
you.. Any AISD parent is welcome to go the website and
complete the survey. The only
exception would be those who
have already sent in a completed paper survey. In the
instructions for the online survey, we need your Skyward
Family Access ID/login. If you
don’t have a Family Access
login, you can follow the directions on our website to request
one. The link will be left up
until the end of April.
To honor our Olsen Park
faculty and staff, please
write a few sentences
about why you like your
teacher so much. Include
your name and grade,
and don’t forget to put
your teacher’s name on it
too!
Email or give it to Mrs.
Bowen by May 4th. You
and your teacher might
be in the news! Parents,
you are encouraged to
participate too!

There’s not much going on
in April but field trips and
TAKS, so I’m going to tell
you about May. One of the
most important things in
May (I think) is Teacher
Appreciation Week! It’s a
week where we let our
teachers know how great
we think they are! We also
have Field Day, so runners,
get ready, get set, go! The
Talent Show is also coming
up, and we know Olsen has
very talented actors, singers,
pianists, dancers, and everything in between! May 10th is
that marvelous Wonderland
night we’ve all been waiting
for! Lots of our learners will
be representing Olsen Park in
UIL. There are categories
such as oral writing, and
number sense. reading, music
memory, and ready writing.
Team members compete
against all the other elementary schools in Amarillo.
Good luck! As you can see
Olsen Owls are going to be
very busy in May!

Owl Outlook
Dear Olsen Park Families,
On behalf of the PTA, I’d
like to thank you for all
your support, efforts, and
time this year. Our school
year is quickly drawing to
an end, and you all have
helped to make it a wonderful year! The PTA is
working hard on our
Spring Carnival and making sure it’s a huge success! The Carnival is set
for Friday, April 29th. Be
on the look out for flyers
about it, as well as tickets
going on sale for our picnic
dinner that evening. It’s
going to be lots of fun!
Other upcoming events
include a snack sale on
April 15th (by the gym),
Wonderland Park Night in
May and the 5th graders
going to Ceta Canyon for
their Outdoor Education
Day. Before we know it,
school will be letting out for
summer break! Thank you
again for all you do for our
children, school and staff.
YOU are greatly appreciated!
Sincerely,
Stephanie Bridges, PTA

4 Step Recipe – Abigail Zbinden
Baboons are very peculiar
creatures, they can survive
long periods of time by licking
the night dew from their
fur. Don’t you wish that you
could do that and not have to
get it from the tap or buy a
bottle of purified water? I think
that would be cool. They have
many predators like leopards
and cheetahs, but sadly, we
are their main enemy. We

hunt and kill these amazing
creatures and it’s NOT HUMANE! {That means it’s not
right}. Any way, I thought you
might enjoy this recipe that I
found.
Baboon Butter
3/4 c. peanut butter
1/4 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 c. raisins
3 sm. very ripe bananas
1 tbsp. shredded coconut
1. Mash peanut butter and
bananas. Add cinnamon, raisins and coconut.
2. Put mixture in a plastic bag
and squish it together.
3. Spread on fruit, crackers
and bread.
4. Enjoy!!

Book Review— Ida B and Old Hippo’s Easter Egg - Adley Gray
Ida B., an interesting book by
Katherine Hannigan, is about
Ida B., who has an interesting
imagination. Her head is full
of thoughts, crafts, ideas, and
plans. No room for anything
else! One day, when Ida B.’s
mom gets cancer, she transforms. Her heart turns small,
hard, and sad, like a rock. Her
fun disappears. Her sweet,
sweet attitude dissolves, so
everything changes. If you
want an easier book, read Old
Hippo’s Easter Egg! Old

Easter eggs for a kid one

Little Mouse found a duck
egg outside! Once he hatched,
Little Duck was adopted by

Disaster Strikes!
-Stephen Pulliam
Japan was struck by one of
the worst earthquakes,
which caused a terrible
tsunami on March 11, 2011
at 2:49pm.. There are more
than a million earthquakes
that tremble the earth each
year. Earthquakes usually
last less than 1 minute.
Earthquakes cannot be pre-
dicted but scientists are
trying to solve how to do
it . An earthquake is a
shaking, rolling or sliding
of the earth’s surface. The
earthquake caused a gigantic tsunami that destroyed
the northeast coast of Japan. A tsunami is a gigantic wave caused by an un-

your eyes can scan the pages,
but your mind must understand, too!
underground volcano eruption
or severe earthquake that can
get up to as high as 64 meters.
It caused many deaths and
many more injured. Japan is
working to clean up after the
mess and take care of the injured. America is doing everything they can to help them.
What can you do to help?!

No Shoes! -Kayden Burns
I hope you had a good “No
Shoe Day! Kimmie Newman
in 5th grade suggested that
Olsen Park participate, so we
could see how it feels to not
have any shoes to wear to
school In many countries,
people don’t have any shoes
at all.
Olsen Park did it for the people in Ethiopia who have no
shoes. Did it make you feel
sad or angry or to think that
some people have no shoes?
Even though it’s fun for us to
not wear shoes to school for a
day, it’s probably not fun for
other people.
Our school motto, as you
probably know, is “Do the
right thing!”, and Kimmie
knew the right thing to do. At
Olsen, the school behaviors are
Responsibility, Empathy,
Safety, and Respect.
Kimmie’s idea showed a LOT
of empathy. Always remember
about how lucky we are all
lucky to have shoes.
