A big catch of fish in Japan!
Japan, an island nation, is rich in marine resources, and people have enjoyed variety of seafood cuisine such as sushi and tempura. Everywhere from
south to north, there are local fishermen who take their ships for fresh fish. Not always they can get fish. Sometimes severe weather block them to go
to a spot. It is all depend on natural situation. Therefore, fishermen respect nature, and show their happiness from their heart when they catch a lot!
This program, learning a song of fisherman, shares a feeling of fisherman with everybody though “Soran Bushi”-a song and dance in the northern part
of Japan, Hokkaido.
Be like fisherman!
There are two items to feel fisherman. One is
“Tenugui”-a oblong cotton cloth which is
used for many purpose such as handed towel
or even a bag. They twist Tenugui, and wind
on their head strongly. It shows the strong
spirits of fisherman. Second is “Happi”-a
cloth for Soran Bushi. It is very colorful cloth
and represents fishing boat flags that are
used to signify a good catch.

but also the vibration reaches to your heart. Set our beat with the members, and ready for an

Let’s show the dance on stage!
In Warabiza, a local musical theater, we will show our performance to
local people just after we learn the dance. There are two
ships(stages) ;one is for around 20 fishermen and the other is for over
50 fishermen. Many international people have come here, and performed
their dance. Let’s show our spirits of fisherman in our own style!
